I have my OA next month. My first one. Now that its basically 100% sure that nothing will happen even if I pass, I've stopped stressing about it. That'll, ironically, probably make me do far better on it. Worse case, I get some practice in. Best case I get my TS clearance

No, it's not just you. I'd imagine this would be a huge morale killer.

This. I believe there was a big hiring burst 10-ish years ago as well. I'm placing all my hopes on something similar in x years.

IIRC the text says something along the lines of all positions vacant as of 1/22 may not be filled and no new hires may be made after 1/22.

I'll be 37 by the end of the first Trump adminstration. Is there a cut-off agewise for State (hard to believe that there is one). But there's probably a median age they're looking for in FSOs, right? LIke early 30-s, late 20s kind of thing?

Giodo!

There are age requirements for the foreign service. 37 is for sure not too old, there shouldn't be any age discrimination within the allowed age range. I worked with a first tour officer who was a 55 year old grandma.

To be eligible, the U.S. Department of State requires that all applicants be:

U.S. citizens on the date they submit their registration package
At least 20 years old and no older than 59 years of age on the day you submit your registration
At least 21 years old and not yet 60 on the day you are appointed as a Foreign Service Officer
Available for worldwide assignments, including Washington, D.C.

There is an age requirement for some positions with Diplomatic Security. I think you have to be commissioned no later than age 37. But for FSOs, you have nothing to worry about if you are in your 30s or 40s for sure.

That's like saying my fridge was broken so I torn down the eastern walls in my home to compensate.

That chart isn't accurate, but a lot of resignations were accepted.

The custom is for people encumbering senate- confirmed positions to offer resignation letters upon a change in administration. Typically the new administration asks some or many to remain until a successor is elected. What was unusual was how many letters were promptly accepted.

Some people were initially told their jobs were safe only to have the rug pulled out from under them a short time later. I think Post hr is doing its best to help but it's out of their hands. It totally sucks.

I am usually awake at 0530 and don't get to rest until midnight or later. Usually I'm too busy even to shower, and I contemplate my first drink by 1400.

Though to be fair, I'm on maternity leave. ;-)
