Try to find your state website, it should have some sort of listing of more local party structure, like counties or whatever. Try to get involved with any of those that you can.

My appointment to a committee was approved by my town's council last night with a really interest mix of people based on their party status. I have honestly no other ideas on what else this entails, and I have no idea what I am doing but like any good member of a democracy I'll have to fake it until I make it. e: Within the past few weeks I've gotten to know a lot of the local people involved in my town's politics. Are you looking to make a career out of it or are you trying to volunteer once per week? What I suggest, if you're just getting started, is to avoid becoming overwhelmed. There are so many problems that trying to keep up with all of them is a full-time job in itself. Begin with a single issue in your community that is important to you and begin researching it. Find out which elected officials are involved. Which city and state agencies. What factors are causing problems and which people are trying to solve it? If you know all of this about any issue, you're way ahead of the vast majority of other volunteers. Connect with the people who are already doing work you approve of and ask them how you can help. If no one is working on the issue you selected, go straight to your elected officials and find out why.

Went to the Nevada Clark County Dem Central Committee meeting last night, at the behest of one of the Bernie superdelegates here in town. The crowd was pretty huge, at with least 300 people, almost a third of which were younger bernouts. You could tell the existing members were a little disconcerted. This was the meeting where people could sign up to be on the committee, which basically votes on how the party spends its resources in the county. Usually there's not enough people in attendance to fill out all the seats, but last night we mobbed them.

Hi there, New Jersey goon here. I'm a teacher and don't have a ton of free time but I would like to get involved in some manner. Even though NJ always goes blue in national elections, I still want help out at the state level as well, especially considering out anti-education, corrupt fucksandwich of a governor. I skimmed the first several pages and didn't see anything for NJ.

I just got back from my first Democratic Party event in my corner of Kansas City (lol). I live in Johnson County, which was the only part of the state that had increased Democratic turn out in this election compared to 2012. There were a good number of people there (70) but only about a table full of people who were between 25-35. It was a great meeting and everyone talked about how terrible Hillary Clinton was for ignoring the rust belt since almost everyone there was originally from a one street light town which has been completely ignored by our party for generations. I also said that I would like to be a Precinct Committeeman and that will likely go unopposed since there are openings throughout the county for them. I also have low self esteem and don't mind losing elections, so I think going forward I'll be running for offices which are otherwise uncontested in favor of the republican incumbent. So, thanks thread! Regardless of if I get the committeeman position I am happy to be the point of contact in the OP for Johnson County, KS. Got back from Jacksonville's Young Dems meeting a little while ago. Duval County is a big Republican stronghold in Florida (or as big a Republican stronghold as a large city in a swing state can be, anyway), but from the sounds of things the Democratic Party here is getting flooded with pissed-off millennials who are very into the idea of actually bothering to run candidates for every available seat. There's a proposed ordinance against LGBT employee discrimination that Dems here have been trying to push for years, and they're hoping it'll go through this time now that they've gotten a lot of local businesses and religious leaders on their side.

I live in a rural area. Very rural. Ruralest in the state some might say...so it is tough to find like minded folks outside of my internet dungeon. But with the help of some goons, I was able to reach out to the nearest dem branch, and go to what was very much 5 - 70 year old women with "I'm still with h->r shirts. In any case, it cemented the point that no one, out here in the wilderness is going to spur me into action, to light my fire, and whip me into a group where I feel like our actions matter. What kinds of questions do you have about the organization? And the "Effective Leftism" thread in D&D has more frequent DSA-talk. I know their Chicago city chapter grew a lot recently, and now has two branches (one for north and one for south), plus they have a bunch of chapters in the suburbs all around. I can't vouch for their website, though. For a sense of what DSA does, check out either dsausa.org or socialists.nyc (NYC-specific, but still informational).
