Marshall Pruett has been doing write-ups on the new P2 / DP chassis in the lead up to Daytona this weekend, one thing I didn't realize about the Oreca is that the tub is based off the prior P1/P2 tub...aka the tub a lot of teams were using last year, including Rebellion's P1 car. So it's really no shock they wound up in P2 this year.

Yeah, of the "old" closed top P2s the Oreca 05 was the only one designed after the 2017 regs were released, which let them build the tubs to the new narrower maximum width so the cars could be upgraded into 07s rather than replaced. It's also (partially) why they dominated Le Mans over the Ligiers because less width = less drag.

Another Caddy 1,2,3 in Practice 2, but it doesn't look like anyone is really running in anger yet. The Mazda and ORECAs were in the 1:38's in the Roar, like the Caddy's are now, but haven't come close to that speed in practice yet. The Nissan DPi is a bigger departure than I thought it was: http://www.racer.com/imsa/item/137909-imsa-2017-prototype-tech-profile-nissan-onroak-dpi The turning vains are pure sex.

Yeah it'll be interesting to see how things actually are in the race once the draft and traffic is in place.

I'll be the one to say it I like that livery and it doesn't look like a confederate flag. Does this look like a confederate flag? Dissing a car because of that just seems a really ODD criticism from a guy who calls himself Peanut President. Just sayin' I just need to stop this bandwagon before it gets out of hand. Anyways, I can't wait for Saturday. I bought a pair of These and I can't wait to break them in...or find out they don't work too well at the track. Are enough people going to this to realistically talk about a meet at the track?

Marauder Stig posted:I'll be the one to say it I agree totally, though it might not have that much of a livery, it crashed hard in practice two and they're replacing the tub. Also, those Howards are the best bang for the buck active earpro on the market. You may experience some fatigue with them on your head all day, but they're the most effective option outside of $250 MSA Sordin Supreme Pro-X with gel cup upgrade. I've got both, and you made a good choice. If you use them a lot, be careful for the ear cups wearing out. They'll stop fitting right and let sound in. In that case, buy the hygiene kit and replace the cups and the foam inside and they'll be good as new. I have spent way too much money on earpro, and I'm looking to buy a $300 set of Etymotic Research in-ear ones, though being single sided deaf, i only *really* need one, and a foam earplug in the deaf one will work Sucks liking guns and racing and having poo poo hearing.

The howards might not work too well at Daytona, due to the sound reflecting off the banking and generally always being above the 82dB cutoff. I could see how they would be really useful at other road courses though.

Guys, I have it on good authority that the Ford's are cheating by using a V8 instead of the TTV6 in the street car, but never fear! The NSX will vanquish them for a class win!

Was watching some of the 2004 Rolex on CyTube and the track looked a whole lot darker than it does in that video. Has Daytona turned up their track lighting over the years, or is the video poster just using a better low-light setting?

Wouldn't be surprised if they updated the lights to make them more efficient, and camera tech has definitely improved in the past 13 years. harperdc posted:I forgot just how good the AMG V8s sounded, my goodness FWIW the Lexus GT3 sounds great too. So DragonSpeed's Oreca tub was damaged so badly that they had to buy a new 07 tub from the Oreca trailer and build a whole new car up over night: http://www.racer.com/imsa/item/137944-rolex-24-all-nighter-pays-off-dragonspeed-oreca-to-race Reliability is going to be the determining factor it seems. Mazda has all old/known electronics, but their gearboxes overheat. VFR has the buggy electronics AND their gearboxes overheat. The Nissan is struggling to keep its intercoolers from getting blocked and killing their top end power (and they have the buggy electronics). Caddy has steering wheels that don't work. Gonna be a fun race! http://www.racer.com/imsa/item/137940-rolex-24-reliability-a-big-concern-for-prototype-teams
