Oh the irony if the United States played the role of Nazi Germany and Germany played the role of the United States.

So the cover story on Metro today here in Calgary was basically saying how Brian Jean would step down as Wildrose leader, and run to lead a united Conservative party, if a deal gets done. And an MRU prof commented that it's basically a sign that Jean's career is dead, and it'll be a coronation for Kenney. Thoughts?

Trump will make a nonaggression treaty with us, roll tanks in to Mexico, then turn around and invade us to secure our farmland and freeze to death while fighting to gain a foothold on the north side of the Assiniboine.

Kenney is a hateful gently caress, so of course he will appeal most to Wildrose and PC voters in Alberta. Jean, although a complete moron, lacks the malignant streak of Kenney and therefore cannot compete. Of the voters, I just pray most of them will be too drunk or busy beating their wives or loving farm animals on election day to swing the province back to whatever unified bunch of right-wing loons emerges from this horrid process.

Pfft, Canada would be right beside the US and UK in a theoretical WW3 that pits the Allies of WW2 against the Axis. Only this time the Axis aren't the bad guys (hopefully).

Or we would be mostly annexed and Quebec would get to be Slovakia because the US wouldn't want a bunch of non-Anglos in their country.

We can be like Sweden and be nominally neutral while selling the US all our natural resources.

Not sure how Russia plays into this.

Tipsy Tom Clancying aside, that's actually a somewhat potentially realistic outcome. If the rest of the world goes apeshit and China says "whatever, you guys do you" and uses their incredible efficiency of getting poo poo done (due to lack of giving a poo poo about human life, dignity, environment etc) to turn their economy around, that could actually turn out to be a thing.

EvilJoven posted:It might work wonderfully now that the old guard neo liberal shitheads know that they're hosed if they think they can keep being the less worse option. Old guard neoliberal shitheads still don't know this. Trudeau is actively doing it right now. Manuel Valls in France is trying to get elected president on the Socialist Party ticket by presenting himself as the pragmatic moderate face of the left, rather than by trying to offer a real alternative to Fillon or Le Pen. The Blairites in the UK are still actively fighting against Corbyn as the leader of Labour because they really want to take the party back to less-bad neoliberalism instead of openly fighting the tide of populism. The Democratic establishment is blaming their loss on Russia and the FBI instead of acknowledging that people didn't want to vote for the lesser of two evils, and are fighting hard to not give the party over to Sanders and the progressives. The further right the world swings, the more the neoliberal establishment thinks they can win by standing in the middle, because surely this time all those moderates will vote for them instead of getting progressively more radicalized by their progressively more radical political leaders.
