I still want to like Flip Flappers (it is beautiful!) but it is a little unsatisfying narratively. Do they ever start explaining how the heck this universe works? I'm at the end of episode 3 and it seems like they're just starting to tease it.

Endorph posted:it shifts to be way more plot heavy in the second half This is true, though I feel like I should warn you that the 'plot' isn't really about explaining the precise mechanics of the world and more about making the themes of Cocona's emotional journey much more explicit than they are in the early episodes. I liked Cocona a whole lot, so I adored it, but if you aren't buying into her story or if you need the setting to run on perfectly consistent and logical rules then you'll probably be disappointed.

Just, the mindset I would suggest approaching it with is this: The story is about Cocona coming of age. The show cares a whole hell of a lot about anything to do with that, and it doesn't give a flying poo poo about anything that doesn't have anything to do with that.
