Yeah, I can't get the senators, but I'm thrilled I actually got through to the one R in my area - I mean, don't get me wrong, I want to call all of them, but if I have to pick one of the three I want the R.

Also, that script saved my bacon as my brain just locked up once I got through, so it was great to have something I could just rattle through.

So, practical question: who are the most active antifa / general leftist groups in Pittsburgh, and is there any central place on social media or elsewhere I can go to hear about events and such before they happen?

I'm a law student so I'm not sure how much time I have for volunteering, but I want to be aware and available for important stuff plus in another year or so I might be of actual use in the domain of the law.

Donate - the ACLU, SPLC, etc etc - we've got organizations that could use the cash to help effect change.

Protest in your own country - I hear the UK's been having protests? Fighting fascism is a worldwide thing, so get out there for your own leaders.

And be there for any protesters you know - my friend has been simultaneously going to protests and not sleeping so I've been pestering her to make sure she's remembering to drink and such - helping is good, destroying yourself in the process isn't.

Might be worthwhile to go to your local radical bookshop: https://thebigideapgh.wordpress.com/ and see if they have any flyers/contacts.

Getting in touch with your own elected officials and making it clear that you want/will support them not rolling over whenever Trump pulls poo poo would also go a long way. If he doubles down on his trade protectionism idiocy and it gets reciprocated, you can guarantee he's going to have donors screaming at him and the rest of the GOP at all hours.

Here's a thing going on at some point in the near future. I went to my city's local organizing meeting this weekend and now I'm supposed to help come up with a fundraiser. Any ideas? So far we're thinking of a Kickstarter, arts and crafts sale, and asking local businesses for donations. Does anyone have George Soros' phone number?

Hey law student, are you involved with your school's National Lawyer's Guild chapter? Probably one of the best things you could volunteer your time for. Lots of opportunities.

Also anyone in a city with a lot of protests (so, everywhere for the foreseeable future) should look into becoming a trained legal observer. You don't have to be a lawyer! It's an incredibly important role at protests.

Just to point out: I don't know how it works where you plan to practice after graduation, but where I live any kind of criminal record disqualifies you from a lot of jobs, including working as an attourney, for most municipal services, being a judge or a prosecutor. While I absolutely think it's a great idea to get involved and do something, stay away from antifa protests and such where a felony arrest is possible.

If you can find a way to use your experience with and knowledge of law, though, that'd probably be pretty great.

Called Senator Shaheen's office to thank her for stating she'll vote No on Jeff Session's nomination as AG. Learned she'll also be voting No on DeVos, Mnuchin, and Price. I said I was glad to hear that and urged that she vote No on all of Trump's upcoming appointments.

Called Senator Hassan's office to ask how she'll be voting on Jeff Session's nomination. I was told she was examining his nomination. I told the person on the phone that based on Jeff Session's past comments and actions she should vote No on his nomination. That I had been disappointed with her Yes vote on Mike Pompeo and that she should vote No on all of Trump's cabinet picks going future.

It'll be up tomorrow, euro time. And to be clear, it's going to focus on reacting to police agression and sensible pre-protest planning and protection, not 'bashing' anybody - even though I won't condemn people for using it to stay safe near nazis and cops, natch.

Find a local politician you believe in or like and call and see if they have any openings on their staff. Also check with local 504c's same way or ask said politicians for suggestions. Like them on facebook or follow them on twitter campaigns will often post openings in their local offices there. Don't expect it to pay well or be full time or offer benefits.

There you go. The best possible thing you can do as a law student is get involved with the NLG. In addition to doing amazing on the ground work it also doubles as a professional organization. If you're interested in getting public service work after graduating (as opposed to having to sell out like i did) being active with the NLG is going to make a lot of connections.

We've seen how important lawyers can be and will be in the fight to come. There are plenty of things you can use your very specialized education and skills toward that go a lot further than violent protest (not talking poo poo about protesting.)

Be an NLG legal observer, get involved with your local chapter. Your law school probably has one already that has like minded people you can meet up with. I don't know where you are in school so I can't find that info for you (University of Pittsburgh has one at the very least) but seriously, NLG is the way to go.

Please call your senators and tell them to vote no on Scott Pruitt today, we're sort of on the brink of climate apocalypse already and even if we defeat the current administration in 2020 it will be kind of a hollow victory if life on earth becomes unsustainable within the next few decades. Climate change can't be reversed, we need to prevent the damage before he actually does it.
