Are there any other good D&D podcasts? I'd prefer a group that's funny. I like Harmontown, and I like Nerd Poker. I've tried Critical Hit, but get bored by the rulebook chats and they're slow to start adventures. I only play 5e, and I know enough about 4e, but I'm honestly down for any other editions, or even roleplaying games outside D&D.

Adventure Zone and Glass Cannon are both good. Drunks and Dragons is good until 100ish drop it afterward.

I really enjoy Role Playing Public Radio's set up. They play a huge assortment of games.

One Shot is also good, their episode 92. Legend of Five Rings was one of the best storytelling podcasts I've ever heard. And I went in knowing nothing about Five Rings.

I'm not sure refreshing or comforting are quite the right word to use, but it's almost therapeutic to hear how other people go through a condition that is very often crippling. I hope it does something to destigmatize depression and other mental health issues because goddamn, do they suck.

it is specifically episode 81 when they introduce the new party member and things start to get weird and disjointed plus the guy who plays Thom does not want to play Thom for the next 30ish episode.

has RPPR gotten better mics/audio quality yet? the levels are always extremely hosed up among other things. its often very hard to hear people talk unless the volume is high, and then every time they laugh or start screaming it blows out the speakers.

I don't like it when you're watching me eat.
I'm working my way through this thread (Waaaay late to the whole podcast thing) but I have a few favorites that others might get a kick out of

The Greatest Generation "A Star Trek podcast from two guys who are a little embarrassed to have a Star Trek podcast." Twice a week the two hosts Adam and Ben (who work in some capacity in the film/tv industry) discuss an episode of ST:TNG, in order. They recently hit both the halfway point in the series and 100 episodes of the show. They tend to point out things like how Worf seems to have an issue opening doors, Data appears to be suicidal, and Geordi is the worst kind of PUA. If you like TNG you're probably in for a treat. If you don't, they don't take it very seriously. I would recommend starting from the beginning, as the in-jokes of Kevin Uxbridge's Real Doll Emporium, "Drunk Shimoda" and Picosby might need a little background.

My Dad Wrote a Porno A trio of British friends read and review one of the least erotic pieces of published literature ever. Oh and it was written by one of the three's retirement aged father, for extra awkwardness. I can't imagine there's anyone here who hasn't heard of this yet. And the title is really very accurate. He didn't write "erotica". No, it's like he literally wrote a porno level quality story, complete with nonsensical logic as to why these people are always having the most banal, poorly written sex. Also, despite the fact the the author has fathered a child, he seems to have a very poor understanding of how sex and the human body actually works, specifically all the lady parts. IIRC, season 3 should be starting up very shortly.

TV Crimes: A work of podcast justice Wil Wheaton and Mikey Neuman find very specific, terrible, episodes of "classic" TV shows and specials and take them to task for their lack of common sense, continuity, or for thinking that computers are magic, as well as other, more terrible logical leaps. From a Beverly Hills 90210 "Drugs are Bad" special, to a Virtual Reality episode of Murder She Wrote, to the entire concepts of Thunder in Paradise and Baywatch Nights. After going through each episode both hosts will make a courtroom style argument for why the people behind these shows should be punished in a court of law. If you don't like Wil Wheaton, you probably will not like this podcast. If that doesn't bother you, the fact that there are only 10 episodes and it updates very infrequently might also turn you away. OTOH, if you like hearing about old(er) TV shows and how weird and out of touch they were, it is a fun listen.

D&D Is For Nerds Three friends and their long suffering DM play through several different campaigns of D&D. If you like hearing grown adults rolling dice to see how many times they get laid on a sea voyage, you'll probably get a kick out of this. They are on the third or fourth such campaign now. They tend to not take the game very seriously, which can either be good or bad depending on how you like your games to go.

Dinosaur Park A spin-off of sorts from D&D above, a series of three self contained stories (two behind a paywall IIRC) where two heroes are put through the wringer at an alternate reality Jurassic Park. Join the adventure as Joel and Other Joel are given a grand tour of the park before it opens, have their daughter kidnapped, and need to mount a rescue mission with Vince Vaugn and Guy Who Looks Like George Costanza, But Isn't George Costanza. I've only gotten through the third in the series, as I think the first two are behind the paywall, but I will consider buying them to get the whole set.

Plumbing the Death Star And from the same people as the last two on this list, a podcast where they ask the questions that don't really get answered in pop culture. Like "Is Batman a failure?" "Is Jonathan Kent from Man of Steel a bad father?" "Does John Hammond even understand what a theme park is supposed to be?" I'll be honest, I really wanted to like this podcast, but the hosts all tended to be a little shouty for my liking. You can't really argue with the width and breadth of the topics they cover, so if you find a topic you like, you'll probably enjoy at least that episode.

Another request for history podcasts! Iiked the idea behind Hardcore History, but Carlin's intense voice and dramatic music is too over the top for me. Is there something of a middle ground between that and History of Rome? (which is downright soporific).

Also, I too gave Sword and Scale a listen after a recommendation early in the thread, and gee, I sure regret not reading further! The dude interviewed a veteran 9/11 operator, which was genuinely interesting, except most of the episode was just playing hosed up call recordings and then asking the poor operator what he thought. 10 straight minutes of a lady breaking down after discovering her dead grandchildren :wtc:

I prefer shows where comedians get high.

Improv4Humans has a few awesome 420 episodes where the guests get BLAAAAZED and then do sketches. It's very funny.

There's Getting Doug with High, but "Good" is up for debate. There are some really great episodes, but it has been almost unwatchable/unlistenable for a little over a year now (unless you like Doug Benson getting a creepy with female porn stars). The group live shows are pretty great. They're all on YouTube, but you can download audio versions only for free as well.

There's Joe Rogan's show, but I don't advocate DMT use, or his comedy, so...

I don't listen to every episode they make just due to already having a library of podcasts that I'll never get through, but, when there's a major "nerd" movie out, these guys always come straight from the midnight release and then talk about the movie in a generally funny way. And since they're usually the first to market because they're from New Zealand or some poo poo, which means I can listen to the podcast on my way home from whatever movie I just saw, which is especially nice when I make the 40 minute drive to the IMAX.

I've been working my way through Thirty Twenty Ten, as far as fluffy pop culture comfort food goes there are definitely worse ways to kill 90+ minutes each week. The gimmick is that each episode explores that week in pop culture exactly 30/20/10 years ago, it's not only a fun nostalgia trip and modestly educational but it's also a great conversation starter to be able to go "Hey, King of the Hill just turned 20!" when you're out with friends or whatever.
