DapperDon posted:gently caress it. I am finally going to ask after all these years. What is WH40K about? It's about a galactic power brought low by betrayal, and everyone freaking the gently caress out and doing the wrong thing in the face of an existential threat. It's fuckups writ large from every angle on a vast scale that appealed to the 1980s tween view on the world with a soupcon of Brian Ansell's occult leanings. it's about good people doing the right thing and being punished for it. it's about everyone tripping over themselves trying to do the right thing. And weirdly, it's really appealing to the alt-right. You know how some people view '1984' as a cautionary tale and others see a manual? Yeah.

The Titanic posted:Here's my own recollection of history... Nope, from the kickstarter it's been called a scam and mocked. You are mostly talking about the Games forum Star Citizen threads which were true believers up until 2015 or so. People could express some doubts but most people were bounced out of those threads with probations if they disturbed the flock of idiot goons with trolling. I think Derek getting buttmad coincided with the collapse of the hugbox here finally allowing open mocking without moderator reprisal but there are threads in the gas chamber from 2012/2013 making fun of those goons/star citizen. This guy makes way more sense now that you know he is a frustrated EVE snowflake. Him going all over reddit spewing salt and being so loving angry about goons and CCP tolerating "organized trolling" means he was probably one of those idiots that got caught in a recruitment scam since CCP condones scamming as an analogue of real world economics. So he probably fell for the internet spaceship equivalent of a nigerian prince scam and has now purchased an autism armada. I'd also bet that there is a direct correlation between the size of his spergfleet and the amount of money he lost due to obvious scams in EVE, since Anger Mcbuttsalt obviously throws money at games to buy validation.

Already thinking I should just replace my office door with a hatch from an old bomber too. I bet I can find the parts just laying around in a buddy's garage and have it cobbled together by volunteer employees. Why? It won't open right anyway and you will just have to clip through it. Waste of resources. If you don't like my opinion, we can move this to concern.

I'd like to know the thought process that leads to 'better load up 123rf and steal it' rather than 'better load up illustrator and make it' when faced with the admittedly huge task of creating a 'Best Price Guaranteed' graphic

AP posted:It's a British Science Fiction take on Monty Python, with Tolkien, Alien and Sex Demons thrown in, only it's all in Latin. The Fantasy setting was an utter pisstake of Tolkein originally, with Dwarves being borderline alcoholics that know how to hold a grudge. Second edition came with the 'Battle of Ork's Rift', which is a play on the events portrayed in the film 'Zulu'. The 'Empire' was largely based around the Holy Roman Empire with various other flavors of medieval thrown in. Orcs Iz Orcs. The Far future version was much the same; I have the first printing of WH40K that I had on pre-order for fricking months and it's filled with sci-fi tropes, turning up the silly to the max. Ansell's takeover then tipped us hard into 'Realms of Darkness' territory and a new world of tit-demons that would hold sway until a board revolt and effectively a corporate takeover which wanted to concentrate on extracting cash from nerds. Chaos got a huge buff during this time. The corporate takeover started to throw more concentration into spessh marines, while neglecting other lines. Then they started with bigger kits, and rules for those kits (Apocalypse rules tend to require around $120/unit of three tanks), before killing off the Fantasy line due to a lack of sales. It's been interesting watching the fortunes of the company over time, as they've always seemed so drat abusive to their customers, but drat it if they didn't produce an interesting set of worlds. Slaanesh is going to get killed off, though. You can have a skull God, but not tit monsters.
