I don't really understand why people think losing Hagelin to Vegas would be that bad, because I see this relatively often. He was important in winning the Cup by being one third of the HBK line no doubt, but his contract is bad when you consider he's pretty much a bottom six player. $4 million a year for this season and the next two, for a guy who's never broken 40 points. Before this season started, I could understand that fear - he looked like he could legitimately be the best LW on the team because the other options were bad or uncertain. But now that the season's playing out, Sheary looks like he's a legitimate top six player, and Guentzel is too good for the AHL with a solid shot at being an NHL top six winger too. So if all Vegas wants from the Penguins is a bottom six player on a bad contract, that's basically the best case scenario for the expansion draft since you have to lose somebody. Rust would be a pretty "good" loss too because he could probably be replaced by Sprong next season, and is the third best RW on the team after Kessel and Hornqvist to begin with.

From an outsider's view Maatta has looked terrible almost every time I have watched him. Obviously I don't watch every Penguins game so I might be missing something, but it seems like Dumoulin is a much better player.

Maatta has also been injury prone which makes guessing where he ends up even harder.

Yeah Maata has been kinda crappy since that first season where he looked real solid all around...then he had all kinds of injuries and crap and he's slow with questionable decision making defensively Sure WHEN he's on he's good positionally and smart on the ice but he hasn't done that consistently in a long while. I could be dumb though. e: sure he's only 22 but he's not going to get any more fleet of foot and every season that passes in which you wonder "how can this guy cover up for his cement feet" is another season where the question of whether he's going to break out is a valid one Levitate fucked around with this message at 05:10 on Feb 6, 2017 |

Kinda tough to develop as a hockey player when all of your limbs spontaneously detach any time someone glances in your direction.

the promise of upside due to maatta's young age keeps people going. also he plays with daley all the time, who is basically what everybody thought justin schultz was before justin schultz turned out to actually be good. i can't bring myself to write him off as irredeemably bad but i'm not sure i'd be upset if he went to vegas either. i don't think there's any argument about dumoulin being better right now though, because he absolutely is, and it seems like a no-brainer that he ends up on the penguins' protected list.

Maatta was the last current player jersey I bought in years so I'm hoping he doesn't get traded/claimed. He's going to get moved with Fleury.

Murray is the goalie of the future. They'll either trade Fleury (either a team that his NTC doesn't cover or he might waive it) or buy him out, or bribe Vegas not to take Murray. They're keeping Murray no matter what.Schlesische posted:Look at the goalies on the table. If Tampa moves Bishop, Fleury is going to be first cab off the rank for LV.

I figured the Penguins would be screwed by Fleury's NTC and his good guy in the locker room attitude, but then I remembered that Rutherford not only traded Rob Scuderi but got a decent piece back for him.

Maatta has been solid at times but he also has stretches where yikes. His skating is just so bad now. It was never a strength, but it feels like he's even slower than he was as a rookie. Between him and Dumo I'd keep Dumoulin for sure because Dumo can still skate well.Pornographic Memory posted:I don't really understand why people think losing Hagelin to Vegas would be that bad, because I see this relatively often. Outside of Calgary and Dallas, who needs better goaltending... like pronto? I don't see Calgary going after Fleury, they're more likely to have another crack at Bishop if they're convinced Elliot doesn't work out and I don't think Dallas has the salary cap room to make a move for Fleury that Pittsburgh (who are also constrained) can accept realistically.

Is LA in the market for a goalie since Quick is still injured? Budaj seems to be holding it down much better then expected. I'm guessing they keep riding him until Quick comes back at the end of the season?

I doubt Winnipeg want to put a bunch of money into an old goaltender unless they think he can teach Hellebuyck. Keep in mind they also have Eric Comrie to push Hellebuyck in a couple years time.

Don't know why he's only getting less than 10 minutes but he's very much still a future piece for the Rangers and will be back playing top six minutes eventually. As for fighting I dunno I guess the Flames are a team of shitheads
