How do people deal with hating their jobs? I seriously want to quit but I can't. Can't afford it and won't do it on principle. Need to at least finish out the school year, no matter how miserable I am.

I would say give it a few years unless the situation is REALLY bad with admin/your coworkers/etc. I am constantly up and down about teaching and I think that's the nature of being a first five years teacher. It's a hard job.

It's a hard job. YEARS? no. do everything you can in your "own" time to get out of a bad work situation. i probably would be dead by now if I had stayed at my poo poo old job that destroyed me mentally and emotionally like maybe doing what you can do is improving your situation at your current job, but if it's just "A Job" do what you can to get elsewhere. mental/emotional health is the most important

There's no work "situation" I just don't want to be a teacher and I hate kids now Edit: I don't actually hate kids. Just 5th graders.

You need some trial by fire time to truly decide if you like it as a profession or not. This isn't an instance of "man this office life BLOWS because management is terrible / people are gossipy fuckers / the bureaucracy is driving me up a wall" it's literally "what the gently caress have I done I got into a career that I have no business being in because I am absolutely terrible at it and hate every person I interact with and all my years of schooling to do this were a giant rear end waste of time so I guess I better change careers" and I promise you, PROMISE YOU basically every moment of first year teaching feels like that. Like, there is a reason that this is an actual First Year Teacher emotional progress map: That thing is 100% accurate. I go through a variation of that every school year, too. I'm hoping by the time I get out of year 5 I don't do that as much any more but I am also not fully convinced by the end of year 5 that I will still want to be doing this as well. And that's why many, many teachers decide it's not the right career for them after 5 years. My point is that yeah this job is really hard and depending on where you are it can be super loving terrible, and maybe you want to change school sites to give it another shot, but I would encourage you NOT to walk away from teaching as a profession after your first year. You don't have any sort of perspective on if you don't like teaching or if you just are in a bad place / if you're just going through the "man why the hell did I sign up for this" part of the first year of teaching. It takes time to know for sure.

It's not the school, they are all really great. Right now I can only work in private schools bc I'm not certified. But idk if I wanna put all the time and effort and money to get the certification. I'm still in the disillusionment phase. Hope it passes soon.

I can't in good conscience encourage my kids to explore teaching as a career option. The ones who are like "I want to be a teacher I am so excited," sure, but not the ones who are like "well maybe I could teach..." :\ Also feel free to give up, after your 2nd or 3rd year and your 2nd or 3rd school

Hey maf thread how's it going? I got tickets to Hamilton when it opens in London. I was going to complain about having to wait for over a year to see it but then I saw the New York prices.
|
# ? Feb 6, 2017 22:31 |
I snagged some tickets to see Hamilton in NY way back in October or something. They aren't resale so the prices aren't actually bad. It's amazing to see the price difference though. I'll be seeing it in June.
