payroll had to withhold an extra $15 from my last check because of some gently caress up on their end, triggered an official notice and etc

I went to payroll and asked for an advance so I could make rent despite the $15 gap, and she took me seriously for way too long :wtc:

surely its more financially efficient to buy some sort of unemployment / financial emergency insurance and use the money for the debt. you can cancel it and actually save the money later

well, group disability insurance is sometimes available through your employer, and that will cover some catastrophes some of the time.

it's not really practical on an individual level though. adverse selection plus narrow appeal = lovely insurance market.

there is no substitute for cash savings.

anyone who works in HR for a while has probably seen some poo poo, even in a normal office.

you know that guy who got fired for putting weird porn on the computer in reception? the person who showed up to work and ODed on heroin in the bathroom and sprayed blood all over the mirror? the guy who didn't show up one day and turned out to just be dead? all of those have happened places where I worked and I am only 35.

they had to write a report about all of that.

This is pretty decent as well.
At the end of each chapter, he talks about some real world examples of stuff he's worked on and how algorithms from the chapter ended up being the right tool.

Furthermore, in my class, like many others, we used bits from CLRS. I'm normally a person who enjoys a math book, but I just could not care when reading it.

Just put all the current buzzwords on your resume. They won't know the difference.
