It's not gonna stop me from voting for the most progressive candidate every time, but it does make me worry that my less willful friends will be less likely to vote, or more likely to be swayed by "hey it's not your fault, what we need is more conservatism to heal what ails us!" i'm sorry that you had to find out that you're a racist this way
