But that's about as far is it went, at least until the National Front started to have enough of a presence that people were less inclined to be confused for the actual jackbooted fascist thugs and the whole Rock Against Racism thing started up and the Nazis answered with Rock Against Communism. Of course the idea was to shock their parents most of whom had either fought in the war or survived the Blitz but it was still pretty stupid. I'm pretty sure the Stooges also had a lot of Nazi paraphernalia but that might have been borrowed from the 1% biker subculture which has been awash in Nazi symbols from the start.

BENGHAZI 2 posted:Those were actual Nazis who got beaten to poo poo Nah, there was definitely a lot of 're-appropriation' of the swastika and fascist imagery in general going on at the time - not just in the U.K. Gangs in NYC were doing the same thing - like, Puerto Rican, black, and Italian kids all emblazoning themselves with the same white supremacist/fascist/reactionary imagery that they likely even got from the Hell's Angels and other bike gangs. And that's not even getting into any number of bands going back to the Ramones who mined reactionary WWII imagery. There's even a famous hardcore song, which you'll no doubt recall, which rebukes segments of the bands' audience who "still think swastikas look cool." That's an explicit reference to the reactionary roots of punk rock - which was 'rebellious,' but far from Leftist or even marginally socially conscious. With heavy metal, you get the scenario where there isn't even a definitive push towards the Left by socially conscious artists and singers, and even a doubling-down on Nazism and WWII imagery as un-ironic power fantasy.

So I got into the PS4 new software beta, which includes an update to the VR that allows support of 3D blu-ray, which means I finally get to watch Dredd in 3D again. I popped it on a second ago just to see how it worked before I went out and it's awesome. I was lucky to see the 3D in theaters, but I'm super excited to be able to watch it in my house without having to buy a (now useless) 3DTV.

weekly font posted:Shamefully(?), I've never seen Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Is it worth visiting as an adult or has the moment long passed at 30? It's drat near perfect. On one level, it's a Chinatown-esque neo-noir. On another, it's a love letter to classic animation. It's also a civil rights allegory. Also, Bob Hoskins' performance is fantastic and half the reason why the effects work so well.
