Still thinking about the Ask Jonathan with the person who thought brushing teeth at work was disgusting and that it was only because people were about to go to dentist appointments.

People wash their hands after wiping their asses and handling their junk. How is it that spitting in the sink is the thing corrupting the sink? Why would you ever touch the porcelain part of the sink in a shared bathroom?

Yeah, there was a lot going on in that letter.

If you've never worked an office job I can see how that might seem strange, but after you start getting stuck in meetings every afternoon working in close proximity with others you start brushing your teeth after lunch. At least you do if you're not completely oblivious to others around you. Or gum, something, please, my god.

I get the sense that our hosts have never approached anything resembling a normal office job.

Altoids.

I always pop one or two after lunch and before every meeting. I don't want to be the one that has coffee breath or smells like cilantro.

Silent white light filled the world. And the righteous and unrighteous alike were consumed in that holy fire.
That Native Americans ep was a noble attempt at seriousness and very interesting, and so far I like the "Seth' backlog theme" episodes, but ultimately I don't think their format can sustain eps where there's more or less zero humor because of how heavy the topic is

Also, Jonathan's "I don't want to do this for more than a few more years" rubbed me the wrong way. I always like when Seth talks about how the podcast is the best thing that ever happened to him, and usually Jonathon's on-board with that, but every once in a while he'll say dismissive stuff like "this shows so stupid" or whatever.

I think it bothers me because it's like, c'mon man, Uhh Yeah Dude is without a doubt your contribution to the world. If Jonathan thinks that he's ever going to participate in something more meaningful or with such a wide reach (or so lucrative, thanks to the patreon) then he's got a rough awakening in store for him.

An opportunity like Uhh Yeah Dude rarely occurs even once in a lifetime. I think Seth knows that he'll be doing it for the rest of his life, and I hope Jonathan comes to that realization eventually. It's what they were born for.

Which episode number is the native american one? The latest?
Also, yeah. this was definitely what they were born to do. UYD.

It's 559. It was weird cause I didn't really catch the beginning of the episode where they would've introduced that they're doing one of those and just slowly noticed that Seth had been reading something about Native American history for like twenty minutes with zero jokes. It does pick up after a bit when they get to the payday loans item and a good Jonathan travel misadventure story.

It does not surprise me at all that Jonathan takes getting paid for showing up to Seth's house once a week for granted. It still breaks my heart though.

On the other hand It's really crazy to say that someones greatest contribution is a podcast ergo they should be chained to it for eternity. People can get tired of anything if they stop enjoying it even if it seems as trivial as going to a friends' house and discussing pop culture each week.

To clarify, I don't think that Jonathan owes me or anyone else to continue UYD. I just think that he owes himself to keep doing it. It really is a special and magical thing that he and Seth have created.

UYD transcends it's medium, imo. I'm not a big podcast guy personally, but UYD is so much more than just a "podcast." It's a vehicle for delivering a philosophy, a certain kind of mindset that can keep you sane as we enter the most insane times in history. I like Seth's bit about how Jonathan should disappear into the wilderness for a year while Seth builds anticipation for a cult based around him, but in all honesty I would absolutely follow a cult led by Seth. That dude just gets it. But he's needs Jonathan as a foil and as a balancing influence (can you imagine how shrill Seth would get if he was just yelling into a microphone on his own)? I'd hate to see that end in a few years because Jonathan wanted to move onto "bigger and better" things.

Obviously the best outcome would be for them to get an HBO show. I know that on Maron Seth said that his preference would be to just film them doing the show as is, but I totally think they'd be able to pull off a Louie/Maron type hybrid show where they do scripted stuff interspersed with filmed versions of the podcast. They have 500 hours of material to draw on for storylines. I mean, imagine an episode that dramatized the best UYD story of all time:

The live show in Raleigh was pretty great. Huge shoutout to the Phil Cook looking rear end in a top hat who spent the money to come and talk to his 2 friends at maximum level and made me unable to hear about 1/4 of the show. Also to the 2 women at the bar who I could hear 20 feet away. It's best to go to a talking show and talk through it.
