they have consistently the best motion handling of any manufacturer, easiest to get to decent color without a $400 calibration too

also despite using google tv there's no ads in the ui unlike most other manufacturers

Do the ads that are listed in that grid only show up when using the "smart" functionality or is it as bad as the Samsung picture where you will see ads when you change the volume? If it's the latter then WTF? Some of those TVs are > $3000 and I would be pissed to see that kind of intrusive advertising after shelling out that kind of money.

i have the top tv on that chart (not bragging or anything heh 😏) and the ad is easy to ignore and kinda relevant. its about movies that you can watch on one of the apps bundled in with the tv. its on the left of the main menu takes like 5-10% of the width

maybe 3 years from now theyll start putting viagra ads in there but for now its not bad

carry on then

also, no. there's basically two types of TVs. "dumb" tvs, which is a race to the bottom in costs, so everyone tries to make them as cheap as possible. "smart" tvs that actually have margins so they can put some engineering and good hardware into it. if you want a non-terrible tv you have to buy the smart one, even if you don't want any of those features.

Oh poop :( I bought the last-before-smart-TV:s top-of-the-line Sony because the panel is drat good but since it's been over five years already I hope it's just going to last. The scaling on this one is loving great.

Any "smart" feature is just going to be obsolete in a year or two I mean gently caress I've got Play Station's up the butt.

Can you see the ads while using an input source other than the TV's smart app launcher (e.g. when using a set top cable box, Apple TV, ROKU, etc..)? If the answer is yes, then I think that's wrong. If the TVs built-in launcher for HBO GO displays an ad I don't care but if the volume control does I do. If the TV displays ads randomly while I watch cable TV then it's going straight back to where I bought it.

You're already dead

I have a Samsung tv and I use the built in YouTube because it can actually stream at 4K plus it's nice to be able to use the normal remote

I know I should disable the tv's wifi and just use my chromecast but I guess I am just a dumb normie that doesn't want to have to deal with ever more CJ'ing poo poo if I can avoid it

OH WAIT I just remembered the overriding reason why I didn't just use my chromecast: I have a soundbar and the setup util on the tv to use my tv remote to change the soundbar volume literally crashes / resets itself if I try to set up more than two inputs to use the soundbar :waycool:

Those notes on ads are loving useless, though; I looked up my tv (a LG) and they've rated it a 0 because it has "ads" exclusively in the video/music/whatever store app that I've only ever even opened once to see what it was when i bought the drat thing.

My parent's old Panasonic plasma, though, got a software update that turned on banner ads in the loving volume indicator.
