Has there been any sort of indication that the non psychic ascension paths get their own variation of the veil, or is it something unique? From the video that got posted on paradox extra earlier it seems like it functions as a 'spend energy, get random encounter' button and a version where your now synthetic species can send 'expeditions' into the giant planet/system/galaxy spanning networks to investigate all the random server worlds created by people who gave up on physical forms entirely or try to communicate with the giant godlike AI's who were created by the random interactions of countless billions of different programs would be pretty incredible.

Can we have a war goal to sacrifice planets to the shroud? Either for more favors or prolonging the time for the empire to get eaten by the new eye of terror.

Imo they should replace "continental" planets with "temperate" or something, and then add in continental planets as planets where each tile is a ranfom/semi random environment type with that level of habitability. So your starting species could only use a few of the tiles at 90 and 60%, but you could get migrations to fill the rest.

I've got a feeling Wiz is accounting for the fact that refugees should not run to you to be eaten unless they're literally being murdered on their side of the border.

Pigs are the saddest livestock as unlike every other food animal they have no real use when alive (except for that most niche of niche activities, truffle hunting).

that reminds me that I once googled why pigs aren't milked. turns out the main reason is that it is just too much trouble to milk a pig. they won't hold still. dreaming about a tall glass of creamy pigsmilk rn.

Okay so I've finally got the time to sit down and start playing this game, and oh god where do I begin? What's the easiest way for a complete beginner at 4x to get started? I'd go with the UN but I've heard that missiles suck rear end, and if I'm going to edit that then it's really tempting to fiddle with all the other settings too.

Missiles work well early game and the difference is literally one tech in a tree that goes about 7 deep for each weapon flavor.

All this talk about eating people made me realize there aren't any nice-looking portraits of spiders and centipede-like beings in Stellaris' standard arthropod portraits. After some searching I finally found a really neat black-and-red nightmare of a centipede on deviant art and are trying to work it in as a portrait, but I had no luck with spiders so far. If we ever get to start as machines, I'm set though: I found two pictures of robot-spiders while searching for nice-looking real spider artwork. Does anyone know some nice pictures of spiders (webspiders mostly, but hunters would do in a cinch)? And when I say "real", I mean artwork of something that looks like a spider. My image search turned up enough pictures of actual IRL spiders to last my nightmares a lifetime (shudder). My plan so far is putting those new people-eater portraits into my Weird Portrait mod on the Steam-workshop, including some custom name lists.

Yeah, IRL spiders I have seen about a thousand by now. Did you know the Portia-spider is almost as smart as a mammal? She uses some kind of staggered neuronal processing to imitate the decision-making a higher lifeform can do. The drawback is, she is by necessity a very slow thinker. For example, her main eyes have a visual range of about 75 cm and if you want her to notice you, you would need to stand insider her range and wait for a while, so her brain can very slowly assemble a picture of you in her brain. Spider facts! (Still an awesome pic though)

Then you set them to Livestock and chow down. It's a nice early game growth boost. Oh man, there's an event chain where you find a race who downloaded themselves into data storage because their planet was doomed or something, right? I think you can just put them in Synth bodies or something, but how great would it be to bio-engineer them new bodies, download them back into their new flesh, and then eat them?
