Welcome to a no bullshit rundown of the job of the explorer. “The professional wanderer” Why do humans risk our lives by pushing the edge? It seems to be a natural instinct for our species; we are always willing to launch ourselves into the unknown. Primitive humans explored on foot, and then on horses. We made ships to cross oceans, and submarines to search below them. Planes allowed us to search the skies and eventually rockets let us leave our planet altogether. Above all other jobs, exploration will be the most popular within Star Citizen. I want to first I will address a question I get all the time. “What happens after we discover everything”? With the commercial launch there will obviously be a finite numbers of systems and millions of excited explorers in thousands or orgs. I believe, that with numbers like that, we could have the majority of it discovered, scanned, probed, mapped, and catalogued before anyone needs to buy insurance. There have been several instances on 10 for the chairman that we have been assured that this possible issue has a simple solution. Discoveries will need to be periodically verified. If everything only required to be scanned once, this game mechanic would be doomed. Jump points initially need to be discovered surveyed and plotted but they are planned to be dynamic. Because the universe changes, there will be a constant need for exploration. You could technically spend your days doing nothing but keeping tabs on the jump points and selling the updated data. We were told that a player would actually need to fly the unknown or stale jump points in order to chart them. When you commit to charting a jump, there is risk of being thrown out, damaged or even killed if you are unable to fly it.. We will have to see about how the drone mechanics will be done, but I personally hope it takes skill to plot a course through. Once the new path is assessed as optimal, the data can be sold so others can perform the jump safely with their navigation computer. Jump points are being classed into three sizes. Some ships will be forced to take a larger point which could result in a longer path. Smaller ships will get more jump options so they can optimize their path shorter or safer. Jump points are just one aspect of exploration. Explorers are also looking to find New planets, New destinations and eventually, new species. Information is vital for the industrial types. Miners, Farmers and Colonists will rely on explorers to find the right place to set up shop. This data could be sold to the government or whoever is willing to pay. The dynamic universe will be also be bolstered with Large Scale events and future content drops. Large scale events will mix up the universe with a collective mission for the players to work on. DLC drops have the potential to expand the universe well into the future to keep the game play fresh. The motivating factors for exploration are broad. There are two types of discovery; discovery for information and discovery for fun. Discovery for information is broken down into, Scientific Discovery, Corporate Intelligence and Military Intelligence. These can each be further broken down to either Personal Gain or Financial Gain. So in essence, there are a lot of reasons why you might take up a career within exploration. Some humans genuinely just want to discover. Being remembered or making your mark in the universe is a real motivation for some people. Even at personal expense, risk of bankruptcy and risk of death. On day one, when the server goes from Beta to live release, parts of the universe will be known, but only to a point. There will be documented paths, races, and planets. The system and planet information are logged in the “ARC Map”. That does not mean that we know everything about them, It's up to the explorer to confirm or disprove these rumors. Exploitation for military intelligence serves to discover key leverage over a group or enemy. It's also been called spying or reconnaissance. An example of this would be that you “Discover” where a pirate org has called home. It’s now up to you to get some information on capability, activity size and strength. It wouldn't hurt to get some type of positive ID so you can do some background research. heir bounty may have high value and you might have the required team to claim it. This is “Organizational Intelligence” If you were outnumbered or otherwise unwilling to deal with it personally, you could sell the information, which is safer and the end of your task. That is “Intelligence for financial gain”. If you are good at it, people will line up from all over for your services. Exploration for “Corporate Intelligence” is basically surveying. The act of mapping and scanning the unknown for resources, jump points or other interesting facts. The goal of corporate exploration is obviously to flip a profit. You aim to sell your information. The information has to be worth more than the expenditure or you are wasting time. It's exciting but is risky and there is no guarantee that the payoff will cover the operating costs. Technically any ship can be used for exploration; some are better suited than others. Currently there are 10 ships that list exploration as their primary role. I will give you a very brief description of them and I plan to do a deep dive later on once we get some updated game mechanics. Aurora ES / LX and Mustang Beta are Tier One Starters
Thanks so very much for spending your time with me today. Fly safe and I will see you in the verse. Here is the link to the Video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ERj_2AeHBo

When I go to war, and I go war often, when I do deeds for certain unmentionable people. This is my primary weapon of war. I never leave without a bandolier filled with Mike & Ike because I need silent kills. The best silent killer is eventually diabetes or a shorter lifespan. Yes I'm in it for the long haul. But not everybody is a secret operative like me and that other guy who does things too. Very legitimate and totally believable.
