Yeah, I don't really compare Noah to Bee or Oliver because even though they're doing the same thing they're doing it in a totally different way. Daily Show's producing 4x as much content and spinning it out faster. So I fully expect Bee and Oliver to have more polished and fleshier pieces, and just the best stuff they worked on all week.

Ughhh...I love this show, but I haven't been impressed with it for the last couple weeks. While her piece on Obama's deportation policy was fair, it seemed kind of, uh, illy-timed. I mean, the Obama White House deserves criticism in that regard, but with a week left, before President Mexiphobe comes in? And the segment tonight on how awesome Kellyanne Conway is turned my stomach. No, Conway is not a genius. You can see that by the way she flails at answering questions. Political reporters are just really, really loving stupid. So stupid, in fact, that someone as dumb as Conway can play them. Majorian fucked around with this message at 06:36 on Jan 19, 2017 |

She did say that she did a great job of getting the walking Cheeto elected and that she should have instead used that energy for a bid herself, but that's damning praise at best.

My point is, that faint praise is still 100% too much praise. I'm tired of the narrative that Conway is a good campaign strategist, because she really isn't. Trump's win was pretty independent of Conway, IMO. I wasn't suggesting that Bee said Conway is a good person, in other words. I just don't buy that Conway is particularly good at her job, either.

She's mastered the art of telling a lie that's juuuuuuuust close enough to a meaningless truth/nonsense that you and she clearly know its bullshit but she'll never admit it. She just sits there saying more nonsense until her interviewer either lose their cool or just give up. I kind of want to see her set on fire on live TV. She's not smart or clever. She's just a shameless and coy liar.

The way I see it, Kellyanne Conway took the art of the spin doctor one step beyond Paul Begala and James Carville by avoiding outright lying. If a reporter tries to pin her down with a question where the truth would make her candidate look bad, instead of telling the lie, she'll twist the question and either answer a related question or attack the reporter for the premise of the question. It's an amazing ju-jitsu that's probably a lot harder than she makes it look, and she definitely has no problem whatsoever using it in the name of evil. Pretty sure she won't be ending up in The Good Place.

They shouldn't be going over every line of their pieces worried that people will misconstrue them as scoring points for The Other Guy or that they're misshaping the media narrative. That's not their burden, and don't put it on them. Both Bee and JOliver are foremost there to provide comedy and while they also hit you with fact-based, comedy-slanted mini-documentaries where they visit Syrian refugees - it's up to the actual news to provide journalism and not mishandle the narrative, even if they're failing at it miserably. I could add caveats and clarifications to this originally small post all day, but to try and put it clearly: the comedians can provide useful information, but they don't shape elections and expecting them to do things like not criticise Hilary Clinton during an election because people are scared their jokes will tip all the undecideds into the Trump camp - is very unfair and bad.

People finally got fed up with Democrats talking like they give a poo poo about them, while sucking lobbyist dicks at fundraisers and cocktail parties. Never fighting for anything and cowering in the corner every time the Republicans looked at them funny. Hillary proudly proclaimed that "America is already great!" while half the population lives in poverty. Her campaign stood for nothing except maintaining the status quo and "lol we can't lose to Trump" while anyone outside the DC bubble yelled at them that she was the only candidate with an actual risk of losing to Trump. The campaign acted like people owed them their votes without offering them anything in return. So they said get hosed and either didn't vote or voted for Trump to see the Democratic party shitshow burn to the ground.

An overwhelming amount of people who voted for Bernie ended up voting for Hillary in the general. The real deficit came with people who typically vote in general elections but not primaries. The main similarity between the two is groups is that they both showed a lack of enthusiasm (which the polls were not able to quantify) for Clinton in the midwest. It's just going to be a thing from now on. Unless if Bernie really fucks up and says something tone-deaf, Sam Bee's not going to flat-out attack him. But we'll regularly see hints of her anger at Bernie Sanders and the Left. This will happen even if the U.S. ends up electing a dozen women presidents and unleashes a liberal/socialist utopia. It's not going away.

There's a lot of people out there that think so-called Bernie bros stayed home or voted for Gary Johnson or just someone other than Hillary and that's why Hillary lost. Logic in any analysis goes right out the window when you realize that a non-zero number of people voted for a guy that openly admitted to sexual assault. We're broken, at a fundamental level, and it's really hard to see a path forward at this point.

I can understand at least a bit of her revulsion with some Bernie supporters, though - even today, months after the election, she gets poo poo thrown at her day and night by people claiming to do so in Bernie's name. A lot of them are probably just right-wingers pretending to be Bernies, but still, I think we actual Bernies need to do a better job of policing our own ranks. Even so, yeah, Sam should know better than to take it out on Bernie personally, or the broader mass of his supporters.

I take her anger at Bernie and the theoretically "Bernie Bros" who didn't vote for Hillary as the same kind of thing when she used to get angry at Obama voters for not turning out in 2010. She's upset at people who think its about one politician (whether that's Obama, Bernie, Hillary, Trump, or whoever) instead of seeing the big picture. So people who theoretically supported Bernie's ideologies but didn't think there was a need to keep Trump out of office fit into the same category as people who wanted Obama to bring "hope and change" but then didn't show up for the elections that would have helped him do that. I also think she's a comedian who specifically uses anger and disrespect as her primary tool. So we should take it in context that she's trying to get big reactions.

I voted in every election. I voted for Buono when the loving New Jersey Democratic Party allowed Chris Christie cruise towards reelection. In that case, the path of least resistance (in a loving blue state) was no resistance. Yet I feel like I'm being blamed for causing Trump. My best defense for Bee is that "she's not the only one". Like other liberal comedians probably privately thought little of Bernie but didn't openly weigh in on the Democratic schism because it's easier to just denounce Trump and now Bee remains is a lightning rod of that criticism still because she spoke out about her preference. (But still, this feels like it goes against this idea I have that "if you're not going to help us, don't hurt us.") I remembered that interview with Sanders supporters when one of them said "the people will rise up", but it was largely played off as a naive belief, rather than a renewed focus on building the coalition at the grassroots. So I don't think it's really a matter of her annoyance with the cult of personality with Obama/Sanders. Politicians don't get things done with the force of their personality alone.

I mean, if you voted for Bernie in the primary and then Hillary in the general than she's not talking about you. If you did that and you still feel like she's yelling at you that's simply your interpretation because she's clearly talking about people who voted Bernie in the primary and then didn't vote/voted someone other than Hillary in the general. If that isn't you, its not. If it is you, then yes, she's saying you're part of the problem. Agree, disagree, but its not a rare or hard to understand argument. I also assume she considers all the stringing out of the primary and nonsense up to the convention part of the same argument. Which again, agree or disagree, is an argument that's been made to death by now. Ultimately whether I agree with Bee or not I find her funny.

I mean, I guess you can just tweet at her while also using the hastag #berniewouldhavewon to probably get a really angry segment out of her, but I'd rather her not continue to alienate a voting base that lost an election thus increasing the chance of Trump pardoning eight turkeys all named Hillary.
