A few seasons ago it was "uncertainty about the lockout," or "with the cap staying static..." With an expansion draft coming teams have a chance to get creative and sellers can probably cash in on some top of standings teams looking to offload some superfluous guys. Each team is going to lose exactly one player, it shouldn't be that big of a concern unless you're in the situation where you're so loaded with talent you have to expose a can't miss top line guy. Whether or not you have to expose Eric Fehr shouldn't paralyze you from making any trades at all.

you can't blame general managers for being cautious about trading, i mean look at how the blackhawks or the penguins or the kings hosed themselves over with their aggressive trading, and who wants to end up like one of those teams. better to just build through the draft and be patient, just hoard your picks and develop young talent like winnipeg or arizona or florida
