Inheritance tax for anything over half a million (or a sensible figure not pulled from my rectum), excluding property below some reasonable amount (with house prices in Sydney, I've no idea what this might be). You don't get to grow fat off your parents ashes any more. Any gifts between family members need to be taxed too, you can't offload your children's inheritance before you die to get around it.

It does rather come down to something like that, doesn't it? Taxes need raising, on whom and for what? Turning taxes into personal responsibility is hilarious coming from the LNP.

I know that in the us one way you got around inheritance tax was to take out a life insurance policy with your children as beneficiaries. (I.e pay someone a bunch of money to give your kids 90% of that money)

It makes me a little sad because I thought this might cut the Gordian Knot and bring the Rinehart family back together, but just going off Gina's net worth they'll still have about 15 million to squabble over, unfortunately.

hahahahah "outlaw negative gearing" Jesus these guys have such weaselly language. Oh we have a budget problem maybe we should stop giving people a massive discount on their tax just because they own an appreciating asset? Maybe we should get rid of the massive concessions for flipping that appreciating asset? Maybe we should do all this because we have a housing bubble and totally unaffordable housing? NAH WOULDN'T WANT TO MAKE ALL THOSE MUMS AND DADS OUTLAWS EDIT: As if negative gearing is some natural thing that they're banning rather than a loving tax break they're phasing out.
