I forgot the guy’s name, but you’re right. The strike on the Martian moon is pushed up in the show, now that I think about it. IIRC they swapped moons, probably for poetic reasons—personification of dread fitting the monologue better than personification of horror.

The launch of the Nauvoo is far more epic than I ever imagined in the books. I like this plan. The tug boats all launching out of Tycho Station. The way the scaffolding melted in the wake of the Nauvoo's engines. This is neat!

Yeah, the executive producers seem to have a lot of respect for the source material. Even to the point that the authors help write the show. SyFy wants to get away from the dreck they've been putting out over the last decade, and want to be taken seriously again as a network. So if that means that they try and go with the Game of Thrones model, then they're all for it. Aside from the Magicians, are there any other big projects that SyFy is working on?

That was a cool episode, lots of great moments in general. So...are we being led to believe that the Protomolocule has, in some way, altered the orbit of Eros Station? I thought maybe it gained enough intelligence/sentience to realize it was on a collision course, but judging from previews for next week's episode, it looks like it's on a course for Earth maybe? Gotta say, seeing the gold Angel Moroni flying towards an asteroid to save the day is... a really interesting image! I was also struck early on when Miller was being shouted at by the Mormon, in his clean cut Mormon suit and tie, when the OPA guard with the face tattoo leaned into the frame... just how utterly out of place these people are. And it makes sense. They might conceivably have the resources and the motivation. And it's not "lol, mormons, how silly." The Mormon mission is being presented as a legitimately beautiful thing. Fred Johnson had a few lines emphasizing that. But Jesus, they look so out of place out here. I love it. Also, Miller and that kid are a great pair.

It's veered inward, and doesn't appear to be on a circular orbit anymore. That would indeed take a (pretty massive) acceleration, but we were watching the whole time from Miller's perspective... and he wasn't jerked or slammed into anything. There were no signs of acceleration.

I am so glad the first season did well enough to warrant the second season's massive increase in budget. This episode was on part with episode 2 in terms of beautiful space scenery (though I doubt anything will beat the interior railgun zero G shots) and then some. I basically assumed the kid was going to make him think he'd have to stay there, then take out his patch, place it on the button, and they'd all have a laugh. Really, if he died there, I'd have been a bit miffed by that silly reasoning. More miffed because that character and actor are the best of show. That said, they did a fantastic job pacing up to that point because it really was set up in a very "yep, he's gonna die" kind of way, telegraphed the way it usually gets telegraphed. The delivery on the last two lines were fantastic. You can tell that these guys are accustomed to spaceflight and the laws of physics and they literally can't comprehend what the gently caress just happened. This show is great. One of my best friends is a set carpenter and spent an absolute ton of time working on the sets for S2. As a present to the crew, they got duffel bags with all the ship patches on them.

It looks more like Eros swung out of the way of the Nauvoo with Miller's location being the axis, which is why there wasn't any noticeable movement for him. (Although you do see bits of that here and there, like the Martian simulation and Miller explaining his crazy plan.)

Johnson finally pulled off some real gravitas: stealing his client's ship is going to destroy his business, but so be it. He sees the hard choice and makes it with no hesitation. Not sure if the addition of Erasmus was the greatest idea. Holden's character development got pushed forward when he killed a mostly innocent med team, but the stated reason for killing them immediately didn't make sense, as people were going to investigate anyway when the rock got redirected into the sun. The whole point of blasting the docks afaik was to make it very hard for anyone to land after matching course. And there's plenty of protomolecule laying around, Protogen definitely kept around a stock of the stuff after their science team blasted off Eros.

Kind of bummed that they cut the video feed stuff from Eros. Probably cut due to budget reasons. In the books, Eros isn't just spitting out an audio-feed but a video feed as well, which really plays up how hosed up the stuff that's going down on Eros is. That said, it does maintain the mystery in the show and so far every time the show has made a big change from the books, I've largely agreed with the choice.
