Nintendo put out a press release for Splatoon 2 during the weekend, and it was mentioned the amiibo figures will be compatible with the game. So some value for money. But they also talked a bit about the mobile app they'll use for voice chats: "This app will connect to the game and allow players to set play appointments with friends and teammates who have been added to their Nintendo Switch friend list or via their social media accounts. It also allows players to match up with those friends directly in the game or voice chat with them via their smart device. For example, during a Private Battle, players can voice chat with all of their connected friends when they divide into teams, but once teams are set, voice chat is switched to communication only between teammates on the same team." So it really seems that you use your mobile or tablet for voice chat. Is it a big deal? Eh. On one hand it is a convoluted solution, but on the other hand voice chats aren't my jam. Your mileage may vary.

Seems approximately as convoluted as requiring purchase of a $40 headset. There's no built in microphone on the Switch, right? So it's one or the other.

I just hope the app is also the new method of handling streetpasses. That was one of my favourite features on the 3DS, but it would be far better suited to a phone rather than making everyone carry their 3DS around in sleep mode

How? Unless the Switch comes with a compatable smartphone (it doesn't) you can't guarantee everyone has one.

I'm conflicted on it. On one hand it's cool I won't need to buy another stupid headset but on the other hand it'll be awkward to listen to game audio on a headset and voice chat at the same time.

I was responding to the streetpasses comment right above me. I can streetpass just fine with my lovely phone by carrying around my 3ds.

They already deconfirmed Streetpass (and Miiverse) for Switch.

Does the joycon gripp cradle have a tilt gyro in it?

Clearly this means it's impossible use a headset. Also voicechat is the worst anyway who cares.

It might not be 100% finalized, or it may vary per game. Like, Splatoon 2 may only use the smartphone app, but some 3rd party game could use the Switch headset jack. The leaked GameStop display had like four different headsets on it, so I'd imagine they're planning on at least some use for it.

I'm holding off on buying a Switch until we get closer to Spla2n's release date. That should be enough time for impressions to come out, updates, etc. And there could be a Spla2n bundle, you never know.

I haven't played 2 yet but it seems like it would be faster for me to pull up a map screen and press a dpad direction to jump somewhere rather than look down, take my hand off the controller and tap the screen.

It's about as fast as looking at the pad, and yes the shortcuts also exist. Jetpack and the air dunk are fun as gently caress.
