All these transform/add a counter options seem like they use the stack and can be responded to, potentially letting your opponent blow up the land before you get the color you actually need out of it. This is probably the most insane corner case of all time, but playing this card: And then getting it ghost quartered before you can tap for R to kill your opponent would be the worst thing. Yes, I've constructed the most insane situation possible, including your deck with no basic mountains left in it, a bolt/shock in hand, and your opponent at 2 life. But it could actually happen.

So GP Brisbane had 12 different decks in the top 16. GP Vancouver also had 12 different decks in the top 16. Some commonality between them in terms of decks represented, but not entirely. Pretty cool. Edit: and 14 different deck types in the top 16 of SCG Modern Classic Baltimore.

In before another 3 pages of how modern is terrible with lots if people restating thier personal opinion of why that is so. Closely followed by the "why standard sucks" discussion again. During which I'll be smashing games of both and having a blast! Edit: I like the land idea. Choosing the colour on entry... They could also have life cost to transform making one side "free" the other shock you. There has to be some interesting design space there. So the abzan company deck in the top 8 cut the normal 3 voice of resurgence and 1 redcap for a 4th bird, feeder, archangel, and spellskite main. Interesting choice, maybe he was trying to dodge graveyard hate? Basically swapped one creature that Company can't hit for another. The monowhite taxes deck in the top 8 had only 2 flickerwisp (heresy!), 3 wall of omens, and 2 shining shoal? Interesting choices.

Fetchlands could've been "Tap, pay 1 life, sacrifice ~this card~: name (Land Type 1) or (Land Type 2), reveal lands until you reveal a land with said type. Put that revealed land into play. Put the revealed cards on the bottom of your deck in a random order." No reliable four colors off a fetch. Drawback of revealing your deck. Fixing for the primary colors with incidental fixing for the shared colors.

It's mostly a mockup to show how simple it would be to template, and as the thread has already discussed, .it can be improved upon. there's a lot of design space there, but wizards like to play it very safe with their land designs, for good reason. If they ever did something like this,it would more likely enter the battlefield tapped.

Few pages back, but the Ad Nauseam scoop judge ruled absolutely correctly. The player trying to scum a victory hasn't done anything wrong by the rules; not sporting behaviour isn't necessarily Unsporting Behaviour. It sure as poo poo isn't Cheating (you have to be doing something wrong for it to be Cheating, and this isn't). It feels bad as gently caress but under current policy at the very most you'd give USC Minor (Warning) if the scumbag was being too demanding. Policy should probably change, but folks should lay off the loving judge.

Is there more to it besides the fact that it allows any deck to rock a free counter even though it's pretty limited? Is setting someone on the play behind their curve turn 1 really that powerful? Were there a lot more cantrips being played in that era?

Every deck where Misstep legal is 56 cards, 4 Misstep. Otherwise you're losing the Misstep wars in turn 1.

They're not like Pastimes bad (I think that was the garbage TO in the US?), but nothing has particularly stood out as really good to me. Had a couple side events this weekend take a while to fire, and prize walls are always kind of suspect, IMO.

I know elements of this have been posted, but MM2017 and Amonkhen packaging previews: http://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/modern-masters-2017-edition-and-amonkhet-packaging-2017-02-20 Domri Rade, Griselbrand and some version of Elspeth (new art) confirmed for MM. Also more detailed shots of the art for the precon Gideon and Liliana. Bigger news: Full art Nicol Bolas themed basic lands!!! Also new planeswalker art for the block and what looks like a legend cycle: Liliana (apparently not cursed), Gideon (Egyptian themed gear) and Nissa (elven national socialist), plus what could be 5 animal-headed gods which seem to each align to a color (guessing the wolf/fox/jackal one is red, it fits the ordering of white cat, blue bird, black crocodile, red jackal, green serpent). Oh, something I missed in the preview, fat packs now have 10 boosters! Don't know if the price changes. If those are gods, as opposed to giants or avatars or something (although gods were mentioned in the blurb introducing the plane) I'm hoping they are typed as "crocodile god", "bird god" and so on.
