@JohnLuTSNMtl #Habs Julien on 27/28 errors: "With younger players & certain players u have to be patient...If you want them to be better you have to accept mistakes." I'm feeling something...what's the opposite of despair (That's Galchenyuk and Beaulieu for non-HAS folk)

Remember when Jonathan Drouin was a pariah, in the AHL, and thought to be on the trade block? Then Stamkos got hurt or whatever and he rose from the ashes? It's like the plot of a corny '80s movie wherein Drouin is the plucky underdog. Like Iron Eagle or something. But good for he and the Bolts because they're a fun second favorite team.

Auston Matthews' on-ice 5v5 GF/60 is 2.68, but his personal 5v5 GF/60 is 1.60. Personally scoring 60% of the team's goals while playing 5v5, why the hell not?

That really makes the dude at my workplace who thinks Eichel is better than Matthews (he's a Sabres fan) even goofier.

Eichel is really good at it's probably a bit of a shame that he'll be overlooked compared to some of the other guys like McDavid, Matthews, Laine, etc Getting hurt to start this year didn't help for sure

Eichel has the exact same ppg as Matthews while playing on a much worse team that plays no where close to as high event hockey as Toronto (60 CF/60 vs 50 CF/60) Not that outlandish that Eichel could end up the better player or that he's a similar quality player right now.

Matthews has only played with rookies the entire season and his most consistent linemate is a guy shooting 6%, I don't consider that an ideal situation. He could easily have more points than he does currently, especially being 89th in TOI/G. He also leads the team forwards in possession-related stats which isn't true of most other comparables. Eichel is really good, and he has a better Pts% iirc, so I get it. Matthews is most impressive in context of his situation on the Leafs.

Matthews linesmates are not good because he's a dirty american playing hero and not sharing the puck to linesmates you can see so because he has 28 goals and only 21 assists whereas good canadian boys like sydney crosby got more passes than goals gretzky has had more assists than any americans have had goals that's how you know he was really a good team player
