It's simpler than that. Soros really loving hated W. So he spent a lot of money trying to ensure W wouldn't get reelected in 2004. This was mostly a business decision because W was terrible for his line of business. The fact that he also has an ultra-weird personal backstory makes the conspiracies easier to swallow.
