Ignoring that even in the context of the show no, he wouldn't check into it. Because he already sees himself as broken and in need of isolation.

Probably true, but I think the whole "mediocre writing saved by great imagery" thing, while always a little suspect, is much easier to pull off in film than in television. Something like, say, Neon Demon gets away wit it by only being two hours, and even that's pushing it.

It would be pretty ludicrous to sit through hours upon hours of content you don't like whatsoever just because 'it gets good'.

No, because they're completely invested in the idea that the conservative right is some kind of loyal opposition whose existence is necessary for a functioning democracy and that sooner or later this will all go back to normal.

Maybe never, because the current mainstream left sees the far left as degenerates too.

One day I go in and it's gone, and I ask the dude working why, and he basically shrugged and said machines always fail, and sometimes there's no way to get pieces to fix it.

He totally could fix it, it'd just be more expensive and involved than he probably considers worth his time. Even the 90s machines are a pain to keep up. I mean, Pinbot is what, thirty years old? On the other hand, it's incredible playing a totally dialed in, well-kept machine. I've played some games from the 60s and 70s that are cleaner and faster than Stern games that came out a few years ago.

Whenever someone says something creepily sexual about an obviously underage girl on youtube or on tumblr or in a gif or whatever and they get called on it, you always have those creepy motherfuckers rushing out to say that actually, she's legal in their home state/country and that makes it ok to be really creepy about a girl who might still be in middle school. Like holy poo poo, is the law the only reason you're not sexually harassing 11 year olds?

BENGHAZI 2 posted:Kurt Eichenwald dropped the line about ephebophilia being different from pedophilia on Twitter so there's Kurt Eichenwald being poo poo They talked about his weird history on Chapo Trap House not too long ago... dude is hosed up. Speaking of, thanks to the thread for introducing me to Chapo Trap House, it's pretty great. The episode where they interviewed Adam Curtis really made some things click for me. He talks about Roadside Picnic and Neuromancer, which are two of my favourite books, and ties them to current politics (which I haven't been able to stop watching). He basically talks about the Zone or Cyberspace being these parallel worlds where new rules apply, and that's how are world is becoming. It's impossible to fully grasp everything that's at play, which results in people becoming passive or retreating into fantasy realities to cope. I think that feeling is what I've been struggling to communicate in the scripts I've been writing, so hopefully that "click" will help. I'm gonna have to watch some of Curtis' movies now. It also made me think of Nerdwriter's essay about Bladerunner as a story about loss of identity in the face of the modern world: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXRlGULqHxg Oh and here's the episode if you haven't checked it out: https://soundcloud.com/chapo-trap-house/episode-65-no-future-feat-adam-curtis-121216

Blisster posted:They talked about his weird history on Chapo Trap House not too long ago... dude is hosed up. The newest episode dips into the same sort of sentiment as the Adam Curtis ep, but they briefly touch on how postmodern lit and all types of social satire had been pointing us as a society getting to the point we're at now. The eerie part is how none of that art really shows anything beyond this point, which I don't really agree with when I think about it (we have tons of post-apocalyptic art showing where we theoretically go from here). I think the future is a tough thing for anyone to conceptualize right now.
