He's staying by his sister because he feels safer around her. She was gonna lock the doors anyway, and we have no reason to believe loving dirt scientists are handy with the ol' shotgun. The objective was not to engage raptors.

Well everybody else in the room seemed to be making themselves useful. But lil Timmy felt his purpose was best served yelling at his sister on the computer (honestly he was probably stressing her out. C'mon kid). And while Grant ain't a marksman, I'm pretty sure there was a reason he brought it with him in the first place. I'm pretty sure everyone here would be more comfortable being chased by raptors with a shotgun than without.

The photography is really underwhelming in general. That shot is egregious, and the rest are really bland. It's a shame, given how much love seems to have been put into the art direction, set design, and costumes. And yes, Emma Watson's performance is totally out of sync with the rest of the scene.

Most of those clips are usually cut way down, so perhaps that's the reason for the weirdness of the shot? Might have actually flowed from another or something.
