There's explosions and a helicopter, but it doesn't seem as chaotic as i remember Mercenaries being. It looks like it's more geared toward borderline sociopaths who cleared and reset the outposts in Far Cry 3 & 4 a gazillion times (me).

I'm just interested in a game with lots of guns and customization for said guns, fun ways to get around (the helicopter sucks but you can skydive across the whole closed beta if you fly to the ceiling!), fun people to do stupid poo poo like see how many C4 you can place before they start disappearing, and enemies aren't bullet sponges like the division. Playing it by myself seems like a good way to hate it.

Also Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 comes out in April for that old school Ghost Recon feel.

phew, for a minute there i lost myself
The actual ME:A gameplay videos look fun and I was obsessed with the ME3 multiplayer so an updated version of that is pretty exciting to me. The characters look more cartoonish and a little wonky in motion during the story cutscenes but hopefully the SP mode is decent as well, but all I really need to have a good time with it is the MP.

All signs point to it being a competently done game with an interesting story and combat system. That's what I've seen thus far in the gameplay videos. That awful side quest that was leaked a couple weeks ago definitely put a damper on the game for me, and I've seen that the voice acting is inconsistent, but that won't be the first time that's happened in a game like this.

Honestly, I hope this means Guerilla Games will be successful enough to be even more ambitious next time. It was risky of them to leave Killzone behind and go in a different direction.

Really, a 3 minute cutscene from a sidequest is probably not representative of the animation in all of the cutscenes in a 40 to 50 hour long game. The important main story animation is apparently all good to great, as well as the main character's VA.

The Ubisoft/Farcry comparisons always seemed daft to me, since any similarities there are look to be mostly on the periphery. What the game looks like is The Witcher 3, with a slightly weaker narrative (particularly in side quests, although those don't look bad per se) but with a stronger combat system.

Are there any real reasons that point to Mass Effect Andromeda being as bad as some think?

Despite ME 3's ending I still dig the games universe and gameplay. Has Bioware just become a company that disappoints again and again to some people?

There's not many other rpgs on console that are like Bioware games. I still enjoy them even if there's problems with it.

(Witcher and Divinity are similar but I'm just not a fan of em, have that weird European rpg design of hundreds of items and clunky inventory/interface that I really dislike)

Seriously. People decided it was going to be bad out of nowhere for some reason a few months ago but really it's always looked like it would be pretty good.

In fairness, the ending to ME3 was the culmination of all 3 games worth of story, which people clearly gave a poo poo about. And they flubbed it horribly.

And of course DA:I wasn't well received.

The gameplay in MEA looks interesting, but I think Bioware just needs to prove itself again and release something well received. Break the stigma of being "the company that releases bad RPGs" in some minds.

It's just cause games are either really good or really bad. Sometimes a game is so mediocre it's unforgivable, and thus really bad, or sometimes a game is really mediocre, but "mindless fun" so it's really good. But it's either really good or really bad. Either because it was made by incompetent mass-market corperate shills and was focus grouped until it was really bad (or good), or it was made my a smaller studio with vision who weren't as influenced by the mainstream enough to make it really bad (or good).

Manatee Cannon
Aug 26, 2010

that's not true tho, even the best games have things they're bad at. like the witcher had bad combat for instance. games will also have bad demos sometimes and still be good, like when people got worried about ff15 after the demonstration of the titan fight

the first nier is a perfect example of a game that's not really good or bad. it was good at some things and bad at others, which led to it being a niche game with fans that were way into it but detractors that really weren't

I mean, I've been disappointed by the last 3, maybe 4 games they've released since the timeline has gotten fuzzy so yes? DA:2, ME:3, SWtOR and DA:I all ran the gamut from, "this is ok but I regret paying full price" to, "retroactively undermined the entire franchise." I have absolutely 0 reason to have faith in Bioware. Also if you read this article describing a couple party members and don't immediately abandon the game then I would suspect you are an ex bioware forums poster because peebee sounds like Serah level garbage and the description for Liam isn't much better.

Yeah, SWTOR was a different studio. EA just liked to call all their studios some variation of Bioware when it was made.

Which means that Bioware's last games were DA2, ME3 and DAI, which doesn't exactly fill me with confidence about Andromeda

I don't have a problem with Liam, but between the design for Peebee that features a midriff baring jacket IN SPACE and that derpy anime scoot-run she does in one of the story trailers, I can't help but despise her.

Also speaking of characters Cora is looking like a Miranda 2.0, in terms of icily professional elite biotics, although hopefully the camera will not be automatically drawn to her rear end.

Ok maybe it just finally sunk in after 3 betas, or maybe I'm being pitted against morons in my first matches, but both Duel AND Dominion (and I hated Dominion in the betas) went really well in For Honor. Fun and entertaining, even.

Dominion is a little spammy and chaotic, but it was a good time.

I will say P2P is a mistake, though. Twice in my first match, it paused to migrate hosts because of 2 ragequitters...

[edit] I will say it was a HUGE mistake for Ubi to not keep "My team / Enemy Team colors static." it fucks me up to be blue one time and orange another. Just make my team always appear blue to me.

Haha , getting outnumbered 3 to 1 in Dominion, then careful retreat for about 20 seconds, kiting 2 players, only to have the 3rd swing and hit his teammate, then having them follow you into a large mob of your teammates and AI is satisfying as gently caress.

No, you're right, Peebee sounds like a annoying fangirl character and being described as "bubbly" is just  stupid. Liam reminds me of Carth from KOTOR or Jacob from ME 2. Just your generic good guys, mediocre boy scouts.

I recall Serah in DA Inquisition being a bit too quirky, but not so bad that Id suddenly swear off Bioware games forever. If anything, Serah was the least of that games problems. It was way too long and had real bad collect bear asses quests.

I hope in Andromeda there's at least a Turian party member, Garrus was my favorite.

Sera is bad, but merril was way worse. Bioware characters have for sure kinda slacked over time. How about an bioware all-stars game where your party members are Minsc, Canderous Ordo, Black Whirlwind, Wrex, and Zaeed(yes 4/5 of those are all basically the same character, but its a good character).
