As long as your name's on the membership rolls you should be able to apply - they check against the membership list but you don't need your card.

Columbus would make more sense since Cincinnati is red af. I'm in Cleveland and I'm going to my first meeting next week.

I'm moving to Columbus in September so if you go to the COL one I wouldn't mind a summary

Thanks to the great people with me in the NH DSA. We're going to rent a room at a local UU Church for our next meeting. I had a meeting with, well let's call it the Organizing Committee, and after some discussion we're going to organize a protest Senator Hassan or Shaheen's office like NYC DSA did to Chuck Schumer. To keep the fire under their feet.

Also to set up a committee for Direct Action, for Theory Education, and for Community Service/Involvement.

I'd like to present a platform of 15/h min. wage, free tuition, and public childcare at the next meeting as things to immediately fight for in New Hampshire after having a lot one-on-ones with the people who showed up at the last meeting.

Do you think those goals are attainable in a state like NH? How strong is the small-c conservative influence there?

Why would new members want to join with the democratic socialists now? Their big endorsement wasn't enough to get Keith Ellison elected to the DNC chair, just like their endorsement of Kerry wasn't enough to get him elected president. That's not a very effective track record.

EXTREMELY PISSED AT THE DNC

Fiction posted:

I picked them because I feel those three are the most attainable in the state. Conservative influence is strong with a healthy dose of libertarianism and Republicans have complete control of the state government at the moment. I place that blame on failure of the Democrats and Clinton's campaign which depressed turnout here. You might remember that Sanders crushed Clinton 60/38 in the NH primary. NH had only one single term Republican governor (our governors serve only two years.) since 1997 and control of the House and Senate has swung back and forth depending on turnout.

1. $15/hr: New Hampshire has the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 2.7%. We're facing a worker shortage. Massachusetts and Maine just raised their minimum wage. Why would someone stay in the state and work here when they can make more somewhere else with benefits on top of that? We need to attract skilled workers into the state and a competitive wage is how to do it.

2. The University of New Hampshire is one of the most expansive public schools in the country. Our students have been going out of state for college or graduating with crushing debt. This was a plank of the Sanders campaign and I intend to carry it forward. UNH announced they will be raising tuition again due to not receiving requested budget increases.

3. Public child daycare is widely support. Even our new Republican governor has a plan for it. The state needs public daycare for those who don't have family or who can't afford private daycare. Right now it's a responsibly of the towns which shuts out the poor.

An odd argument for a socialist group to be making, imo. Republicans already by and large support minimum wage increases, no need to cede ideological ground to them in the process of fighting for it.

Let me try that again then. We need a $15/min. wage because the American worker is getting crushed. Why is it my mother gets a 1% pay raise annually and a lot of her coworkers get 0%? And Jamie Dimon gets another $10 million? My great-grandfather was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America for 40 years. Paid his union dues and retired with his pension and Social Security for 30 years. My great-grandmother didn't have to work. You can't do that now. It's not enough to bring jobs back or keep jobs if they offer poo poo pay and no benefits. More and more wealth is getting concentrated into fewer and fewer hands. We need to fight for workers, fight for unions, and the first step is $15/min. wage. Get that money into the hands of those who need it to live and not billionaires and millionaires counting their stock options.

New Hampshire has no minimum wage laws btw. We default to the Federal minimum of $7.25.

Do you have a source on that? My loose impression of Republicans is they tend to oppose minimum wage increases because something something job creators something something but I might be woefully misguided.
