Baloogan posted:ive been told by a civil engineer (who is an idiot, so i don't believe em) that the reason is earthquakes. japan has hella no undergrounded lines either yea that cant be it. im sure its a consideration but it's probably due to there being no money or significant reason to justify converting the existing networks to underground, especially in areas that have already been long developed - typically around here underground lines will only be found in residential neighborhoods that have been developed sometime in the last 30yrs or so...whereas the neighborhoods with post-war homes will almost always have overhead lines. i used to work for an electric utility doing GIS/survey stuff but that was almost 10yrs ago so thats all i can think of...
