Honestly I think most kids who drop out of college and come home have WAY more uncomfortable conversations than what's in this game. Mae gets off easy.

I also thought that fight they had just made their relationship stronger. That whole thing was really well done. Can you avoid having that fight altogether by remembering to go to church with her like she asks?

I think for kids in those situations parents who are mostly loving and supportive can be pretty stressful too, because they constantly feel like they're letting their families down just by existing and can go down even more self-destructive paths to deliberately stoke resentment and feel justifiably hated. I wasn't in Mae's exact situation but some of that percolating stress in her household definitely felt familiar. Also holy poo poo I don't know which of Mae's friends wrote the bassline for Pumpkin Headed Guy but they were clearly possessed by the devil.

I wished I switched to keyboard controls for that one; switching between a and y on the game pad was really hard. The solo (?) section loving murdered me despite that though. Also at macaluso: nope! Yeah, using a controller I eventually started using two thumbs on the face button to do the rhythm bits, and that kinda worked.

Just finished it. It was a solid experience. I totally identify with Mae as a character. I dropped out of college due to a mental breakdown, and having those awkward conversations, or trying to avoid those conversations, is absolutely a thing. That and I love Mae's "eff the police" attitude, and the throwaway line about beating up fascists was very satisfying.

Bea and Angus both have happy expressions, it's that they both only use them like once or twice. -- While I understand that time is abstracted and Mae probable eats three meals a day rather than an amount between 0 and 1, it does feel a little amusing and also odd that we see Mae go to bed after removing clothes, and then wake up by putting those exact same clothes on without any washing up or showering or whatever.

She doesn't take her clothes off, just her shoes. She doesn't change her clothes at all over the course of the two weeks or so the game takes place, outside of putting her costume on that one time, I think. Which, yeah, pretty true to life when it comes to depression. Also really gross, speaking as a person who has been that gross in the past. Depression sucks. We don't know who it was. Some people think it's Molly (Aunt Mall Cop) but both her ears are intact, and the cultist has a notched ear like Mae does. Anyway, given their recruiting conversation and whatnot, I don't think the cult has gotten any new blood in quite a while. Casey's down in the hole.

Game's good. Probably gonna replay it in a month or so because Gregg rulz, okay. Definitely don't regret going full Bea for my first playthrough though, painful as it got sometimes. Does anyone know what happens if you like, mix and match spending time with Gregg and Bea? I can't imagine Bea's party scene having anywhere near the same impact if it's like the second time you ever hung out with her. Also, I thought that I combed every inch of the town every day, but somehow I guess I never found Lori or got any of her scenes at all! Where does she even hang out? Finally, anyone else get the impression that Bruce 100% killed himself?

I think he probably left before the cult got him, at least. Whether he killed himself or not, I'm not entirely sure, but he was definitely lying about going back to his family; earlier conversations with him implied his daughter being either estranged or dead, so I think he was just trying to spare Mae's feelings there. I wonder if there's a way for that whole thing to end differently. I missed a day with them due to accidentally progressing early, so that might have caused problems for me.

Wowporn posted:near the statue in the center of town the first one or two days, then two buildings to the left of the church stairs, way up high kittycorner to the window with the parade floats/rat family Ohhhhhh, THAT'S her. I wondered why I never saw her again after the first day, whoops. In retrospect I don't think I actually explored all the roofs, so that explains that. Other scattered ending thoughts: Are the four council people anywhere to be seen in the epilogue, because they seem like the type of people who'd totally be in the hosed up cult. (Also, I appreciated that the game didn't even try to frame it as a choice whether or not to even listen to those fucks any longer than you had to; I was totally with Angus on that one.) Aunt Mallcop was a really weird character in general, because she's given a super prominent spotlight during most of the plot events that just... never leads to anything? Like, she's MIA for the entire final act and the epilogue, apart from mentioning that she found Mae. I guess she's mostly there to build up tension, but it feels like a waste for that to be her ONLY purpose?

Because if not I think the implication was that she was one of the cultists, hence why she appears right after the first "ghost sighting", her comments about protecting people like Mae, etc. In that case her warnings throughout the game come off as sympathetic; she legitimately didn't want Mae to get hurt.

Yeah I didn't think she'd bother updating Mae on the details of the chopped-off arm if she was part of it. I think she said that the person was dead when it was cut off. Possible that the coroner was lying or I wonder if that meant that the cult guys really were super long lived to the point of kind of undeath...I mean they actually do have some kind of supernatural powers right?

Did anyone look around to see if any background characters went missing after the mine caves in? The only one I noticed was that pair of people up the stairs right next to the Snack Falcon (I think one is a bird but now I'm totally forgetting). The guy on the right was gone the next morning, even though both of them had been there every day without fail before then. Ooh also, does beating Demon Tower do anything? VVV Dang!!
