I'm going to take a wild guess that Gaap isn't in the fighting game simply because her specific powers would be a headache to translate into a sane moveset, especially since it was actually made by 07th Expansion and initially released at Comiket rather than some major game studio. Most of the other characters have relatively straightforward attacks, rather than "make holes anywhere I feel like that lead to anywhere I like." Alternatively she just wasn't particularly popular, and relatively minor, so they didn't bother. It could of course be something else - hell, the reason might even be mentioned somewhere - but I've never really gone looking for the reasons behind that omission.

I suspect somebody already said this, but the "meta" scenes feel to me like a mystery author (Beato) and a reader (Battler) discussing a story. Then the different episodes become revisions of one story. Same basic idea and characters, but the details get switched around as the author tries to present a more clever puzzle. I think it feels this way because the emphasis is on figuring out the locked room part, while it would be more realistic to wonder who the murder is, and how they can be stopped from killing again, rather than "did this require magic?" I don't think we gotten any hint of why the murderer would want to create a locked room. I hope there really is a reason other than it making for a neat puzzle.

Thank you for the answer I really wanted, I still think she's lame but this is better than just "because the artist was really proud of this goofy character design they made, also tits." As for fighting games, she could be a bullshit teleporting everywhere type like half of the Mortal Kombat characters, also dive kicks.

This some levels of anime I would not expect after episode 1, but there's still another whole game after this so I'm sure this isn't peak anime. What are Battler and Maria doing right now, I like to think they're watching cartoons and Battler is getting frustrated at Krauss for not using the magically enchanted jail cell bar as a weapon against the goat man.

Ye gods, things have gotten so anime that even the characters are drawing attention to how much of a ridiculous fanfiction it is. I wonder if Maria is writing this, or at least helping the person spinning this story with "suggestions"... or else the person involved is just deranged and is really good at hiding it. It's so weird and art odds with the story before now, I wonder if any real-world analogues can be drawn between the magical and mundane. I used to think, for example, that Virgilia was a clear parallel to Kumasawa, but they're dropping so many mackerel references and "ohoho"s in her speech as CottonWolf said that I begin to distrust this connection, as it seems purposefully drawn as a manner to cast suspicion on her. But apparently, Gohda and K are locked in the shed, which Battler confirmed, and again the question arises how much the things Bato sees arises as well. I need to draw this out.
