my main thesis on tng, its a future based on the idea that human nature doesnt change but we can build a world defined by the best of ourselves instead of our darkest poo poo

charity and the drive to explore and learning and hope and persistence and all that cool jazz can dictate the shape of things, and help us not write new histories of war and hate and fear etc

its a very sweetly inspiring idea even if not always convincing

don't forget that despite worshiping wall street and building their society completely around capitalism and venerating things like participating in the arms market as a virtue they still looked down on humanity's past for engaging in slavery

wtf

i told this story before but i met colm meany aka chief o'brient

my actress aunt recognized my latent dorkiness at 8 and took me to the studio where they filmed d9s and we walked around the set and it was cool. the stars you see in the windows are just black paper on rolls with holes in them with lights behind them making the holes look like stars. also all of the mediines in the medical bay are just salt and pepper shakers with neon stickers slapped on them

colm gave me an action figure of himself and asked me if i wastched star trek. i was 8 so no i didnt but i didnt know hwat to say so i said "i hope you die real soon so this ation figure is worth something"

he gives me the biggest wtf look and then starts laughing and tells me and my aunt about how he hates his fans and how he went on a star trek cruise for like a couple hundred thousand and how awkward it was hanging out with people on a sea vessel and listening to them relate everything nautical to star trek terms

It's so damn...literal.
So Hollywood spends all night being super progressive about everything, then at the last second, they step on their own dicks.
