Poor Warren Beatty, someone up there really hates him.

Warren Beatty announced Best Picture for La La Land, they got up on stage, gave their speeches, and then a harried stagehand came up and announced that the actual winner was Moonlight.

Everyone laughed except for Warren Beatty.

I stilly haven't gotten around to seeing either but it's good Moonlight won because it will shut up all those smug think pieces and outright bizarre dismissive hatred I've been seeing of La La Land because it was the type of movie that would probably win best picture.

On the other hand they will just make the people in those two annoying groups happy so maybe it's bad it won.

Someone who now no longer has a job handed Warren Beatty the "Best Actress" envelope (Emma Stone, La La Land), he opened it, looked confused, waited a few minutes, showed it to Faye Dunway who screamed LA LA LAND!. The La La Land people came up on stage, started giving speeches. That's one of the producers I think.

Honestly, Chazelle just became the youngest Best Director in history. I don't feel too bad for him or for Stone, and Gosling probably thinks this is hilarious. Those producers though, someone should probably make sure they don't drink too much tonight.

actually Leonardo DiCaprio saved the envelope from his presenting and personally handed it to Warren telling him it was the Best Picture results.

Leo will play Warren in the movie about this incident 30 years from now.

I honestly did like La La Land better, but this is for the best. This way it gets not to be the focus of pieces about how out of touch the Academy is, whereas I don't foresee Moonlight getting much of a backlash. And the difference in my estimate of quality between them is razor thin anyway so Moonlight is a perfectly fine choice.

Also the real crime was Shin Godzilla not being nominated.

Both movies were good and deserved to win. Either one would have been a fine choice.

The category transcended the prize for best movie into the political arena to a point that was unbearable.

It's shocking that Moonlight's theatrical gross has yet to touch La La Land's relatively modest $30 million production budget

I read on twitter that DiCaprio gave Emma Stone the envelope/card and she still had it backstage so there might have been a second one printed?

In my quest to watch more great movies, I've discovered something that lots of people discovered a long-rear end time ago: Al Pacino is a phenomenal loving actor. I've watched The Insider and Dog Day Afternoon on consecutive days and it's amazing really. I knew he was good at being loud but the amount of compassion he's able to convey is really astounding. I don't think I expected that.
