It is and hopefully it doesn't lead to a weaker game, but who knows at this point. Maybe the romances will be super good and clearly organic and not at all fan service but based on those "joke" tweets I'm leaning towards no.

Like sometimes I listen to the Bioware team talk and I'm reminded of how anime got creepier and creepier as a rule over the years due to chasing the dollars of hardcore basement dwelling otaku who drop 200 bucks at a time on figurines and what the gently caress ever, and now it's almost impossible to genuinely recommend a given show without heavy qualifiers about <insert creepy bullshit here> you have to ignore to actually get to the good parts. I feel like I'm watching that happen in slow motion with Bioware.

As much as I don't care you're 100% correct. It also went from somewhere between hard and soft sci-fi into deep space opera fantasy. Tbh I was surprised you didn't get a laser sword at some point

I'm upset at the fact that the mass effect series, a video game series whose entire mission statement is to jerk off the player as much as possible, is jerking off the player.

I am cautiously optimistic that even though bioware is catering increasingly to the squeeingest part of their fan base, they're not going to completely forget to make a video game about flying around in space and shooting aliens, too I liked the original trilogy (even three, suck my dick) so this next one will probably, PROBABLY, be at least a little bit fun to play in between the fan service

If we ever meet aliens in real life I'm going to be really conflicted because XCOM taught me to murder all aliens, but Mass Effect taught me to bang all aliens instead. Halo taught me to murder aliens then crouch up and down on top of them though so that's probably a good balance.

The combat looks hella tight and I can't wait to get cool guns to shoot the hell out of bad people. I might even get more excited to blast them with my squad too. I'm even gonna play the multiplayer and kill even more things they throw at me! I might even laugh while I cause tech and biotic explosions.

More bromance, less romance. I want a squad of six Turians and they're all named Garrus. Is that a mass effect generator in that espresso machine? It drat well will be, soldier! Meet me in the docking bay at 6, we're going to wrestle, but not in that way. Well, maybe in that way. Half and half.

Yea, and tits aside, it fades to black for the sex and focuses on the characters talking to each other. Origins instead showed characters actually humping while cheesy porn music plays.

Sorry that I poo poo up the thread a bit by thinking that mega-rich people would absolutely fund space exploration instead of talking about the fuckable aliens. I just finished my WAY later 3rd play-through of ME2 and I was really struck by how all the loyalty missions were based on family. Tali's dad. Jacob's dad. Fish-faces' son. Miranda's sister. Samara's daughter. Only Jack and Garris really have non-family missions. OH there's the Salarian dude who's work-friend goes bonkers but he also does that hilarious Gilbert and Sullivan song and it's all good.

One thing I'm really looking forward to this time is the high possibility of the main character having to work out some daddy issues. Shepard never got in on the fun, if your mom was still alive in the original trilogy she was just proud of you.

For awhile, I had thought they were getting better with relationships due to my experience with DA:I. In my game I attempted to romance the diplomat lady in the Inquisition. It was going well at first, but then there was another suitor from her home country that had dealings with her family. I ended up challenging him to a duel, but before it could pop off, she caught us and privately admonished me for making the position of Inquisitor look bad. I apologized and agreed to keep things professional and realized the position I held was too important, and I didn't really have the time for matters of the heart. Guess that wasn't the standard experience lol

As I recall, Earthborn Shep's parents were simply not present, like they gave her up for adoption or were deadbeats so she was raised on the streets, while Colonist Shep's parents all died in a slaver raid. Spacer Shep got to grow up normally, but Dad is conspicuously absent, and you only ever speak to your mother, who is never shown.
