Actually, kidding aside, posting that comic increased my respect for the work you do. I figured I'd just use the BeautifulSoup scraper I made to suck all the images off those pages and drop 'em on Imgur, with a link back to the source. Turns out that not only is every comic cut up into individual fuckin' panels, they set their pages up to defeat the type of basic bitch python scraper my librarian rear end is capable of coding. This is actually a good case of stuck clock-ism. The problem is that a lot of our government is built on the assumption that everyone is acting with, if not total competence, at least a clue and some good faith. So when you get poo poo like the executive branch saying "hey ICE, go round people up" and the judicial branch says "uh how about no, that poo poo is not consitutional," there is no mechanism to deal with it if the executive says "gently caress you, we're doing it anyway." I read a pretty good twitter thing about it (what do you call those anyway?), the point of which is "the Constitution is badly written because nobody stopped to ask what happens if a shitbag gets in charge." quote:3 Ah, Bok, you worthless hypocritical disingenuous piece of poo poo. Go gently caress yourself. We all know exactly what "states rights" is a dogwhistle for, and we also all know you're so full of poo poo it spills out when you open your vile lying mouth because you loving love having the government in the bedroom controlling what happens as long as it isn't between one (white) man and one (white) woman.

So if you mean it in the latter sense, then the answer is "apparently yes, please disregard my prior statement." The US government is the poster child for modern Republican (the political philosophy, not the party) government, particularly in its emphasis on checks and balances to power. It's famous for its unusual stability and strong civic institutions. The current state of affairs is only possible because one party simultaneously gained control of both houses of the legislature and a large proportion of state governments, while there was a vacancy on the top level of the judiciary. It happened under really unprecedented domestic and international chicanery in the electoral process, and even then it was really close. The tweetstorm is, I pray to god, meant to be satirical. Comparing the construction of government systems to a programming puzzle is...insane.

Discendo Vox posted:I...think there...might...be...some...thing...wrong...with...this...quote The full paragraph that he's mangling: quote:We are concerned, Senator Hatch, that your proposed remedy to employer sanctions–based discrimination, namely, the elimination of employer sanctions, will cause another problem — the revival of pre-1986 discrimination against black and brown U.S. and documented workers, in favor of cheap labor — the undocumented workers. This would undoubtedly exacerbate an already severe economic crisis in communities where there are large numbers of new immigrants. So he's actually missing another ellipsis between "in favor of" and "undocumented worker," and stuck in a "the" that doesn't belong.
