Not only did the left expect Brexit, significant parts of the left were actively campaigning for it. And Jeremy Corbyn isn't losing support because of some media campaign but because he's grossly incompent. That he now supports a hard Brexit is certainly a part of it.

He has a genuine problem though; either he opposes Brexit that was voted for mainly by working class people who labour are said to represent, or he just steps aside.

Either decision he chooses would lose him significant support.

Just from my experience; I think the key to advancing the agenda is to check the language that you use.

The moment a leftist person resorts to calling someone a racist or a bigot because someone does not agree with you on everything puts others on the defence. Once this happens you've lost the argument as that person will leave feeling insulted and be thinking more about how much they don't like as opposed to considering your argument.

Do you actually know people IRL who do this because this sounds like a strawman thing that the right portrays the left as doing way more than the left actually does.

There also needs to be less drama made of certain kinds of speech. Even comedians who are paid to be controversial feel like they are treading on eggshells. There is a difference between making a joke and actually meaning something (i.e. PewdiePie) - I don't really like PewdiePie very much and his nazi-related humor was a little distasteful, but it's clear he was expressing his style of humor and did not actually have an agenda to kill Jews.

Nah PewDiePie had been spiraling out of control for a while before the nazi thing, like he was making bizarre conspiracy videos and thought youtube and a number of other outlets were out to get him, that was just the last straw. Also he was employed by goddamn Disney, his brand of humor needs to not include nazis.

While I was at University, there were also many petitions to prevent right-wing speakers coming in for silly things like a throw-away comment from 8 years ago. If you do not create the platform for debate, change cannot happen without aggression.

Did those petitions succeed? Because the petitions themselves are also part of the "debate". And from what I can tell the only people the left is super-duper trying to keep from speaking at universities right now are Milo, a certifiably Bad Person, and some TERF feminists.

I'm disappointed that the support for Jeremy Corbyn is dwindling with even his most avid supporters as they have bought into the whole media campaign of him being unelectable; I think Britain is now certainly going to be a one party country.

His support is dwindling amongst his most avid supporters because his total lack of enthusiasm for fighting the Brexit process is alarming. He's capable of way more effort than he's putting in and, while I respected the whip on Brexit at first (as him attempting to be electable, which door-to-door campaigners has said has actually done some good), the three line nature of it was bizarre.

He's a socialist and barnstorming speeches are part of his reportoire but I haven't seen one for a few months now. It's a legitimate concern if he can't bring enthusiasm in his own base.

He still needs to remain Labour leader for a while, his mandate was always to guillotine the parachuted blairites out of the PLP. He's still talking about Hunt's fiasco and the recent attacks on the disabled, but instead of half hour speeches featuring angry jam grandad that people like, it's three minute soundbyte clips repeating what everyone knows with no fire in them.

1) I actually know people like this. I did an arts degree; it was full of this attitude.

2) Tbf I am not clued up on PewdiePie's story. All I know is that I watched the videos he was in trouble for and thought, yeah not my kind of humor, but I've heard worse from comedians.

3) Yes the petitions succeeded else I would not be posting about it. My point being is I consider myself left wing whilst also advocating unvetted free speech. Censorship is a dangerous concept as whilst it keeps out some evil opinions it can also discourage genuine opinions that are not necessarily mainstream. I believe in the old phrase sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. It is less toxic in the UK than the US I think; but still I only discovered this year my father was a UKIP supporter because of brexit. I had no idea because of this culture of silence. I was initially furous, but then I realised I was debasing my own principals and after he explained his reasoning I could undertand his stance even though I still disagree entirely.

I doubt it. Beating the poo poo out of someone funnily enough makes a person more adamant in their beliefs.

If you are hindered by words, you are a pussy to be blunt. loving heroes like Martin Luther King Jr. endured real punishment for their beliefs and succeeded in their enphatic victories for social justice. I repeat I am for the left-wing agenda except for speech. As speech is subjective and it diverts the narrative from real issues. Stop talking about who used a bad word and start acting on injustice.

You know what I'm doing now? I'm in Vietnam in an education advisor role (in a small province tbf) where I have just achieved the first recognised women's teacher day. Previously, there was only a generic teachers day and men's teachers day. But I campaigned against my employer to raise the wage of women (which he did a little albeit not to the same level of men which I am still vocal about). Here, inequality is far worse than western countries. Those who breed negativity instead of fight on the frontlines like I am doing in a communist (dictatorship). '

Keep this attiutude and you will achieve nothing becuase change occurs gradually. If you're expecting an immediate overhaul you are deluded and do not undertand social constructs at all.

This is a good example for why violence won't work. Slavery was already on the way out before the Civil War but instead of a gradual elimination of slavery, we forced change. What happened? Jim Crow, segregation, Lost Cause, etc. In many ways, we're still fighting the Civil War. If we had just let nature take its course and allowed for another generation, three tops, of chattel slavery we'd be living in a better world now.
