i don't know much about fiber optics but i can't imagine that thing actually working once the filament is pressed against and dragged across a person's face. im guessing the energy all dissipates into your skin and probably also the filament is destroyed

there was a cnet video where they tried it out, and in addition to them breaking the filament, they noticed a smell of burning hair

Sagebrush

i think the consensus on that video is that lasers don't enter into it at all -- it's just a hot wire, which is why he's so jittery about touching his skin with it, and the weird green lighting is to mask the dull infrared glow of the wire that the camera would otherwise pick up. also that's why you can clearly see it doesn't loving work at all.

it's supposed to be based on "frustrated total internal reflection" and the green lighting is to mask the proprietary wavelength they're using

Also you cant touch it to your skin because the wire is too fragile.

Lipstick Apathy

quote:

We’re working on two new fiber models.

The intermediate draw of the first model came out nicely at the end of December 2016. The second draw (ultimate draw) of that model, is planned for the end of January 2017.

We’ll be starting the work on the second fiber model (which is even more advanced), based on the feedback from the draw result of the first model.

We expect both models to work and we’re looking forward to getting them in the lab. We’re planning to start measurements and evaluation of the first model upon delivery in February 2017.

Interpretation of some of the physics 15 months ago led us astray, resulting in a 12 month set back of the fiber drawing. With the funds we received from the backers, we were able to purchase very powerful hardware for even more advanced and much faster computer modeling, which has corrected the path of the fiber iterations.

In the mean while everything else has been developed, including a now delivered custom wavelength laser-diode. Everything else mechanical and electrical, including the safely rechargeable battery, and the software were developed during last year, to a stage where the data points from the ultimately picked fiber will be dropped in.

Thank you for sticking with us, we are optimistic that 2017 is going to be very exciting and we can't wait to share in that excitement with you.

set backs? mean while? what exactly have these clowns been doing?
