Yeah that's awful. I reported the post but is there anything else that can be done?

I don't know if this is something that is explained in the game or what, but here's a useful tip for Majima's Thug style. You can quick step cancel out of his square x4 triangle combo (it's the straight lunging kick) which you can then follow up with a quick step blow attack assuming you went forward or another square combo or even a grab. This can lead to hilarious amounts of damage as you bounce an enemy, including bosses, off a wall.

I just got this game as a gift from my friend right after I got home from Mexico. As a newcomer to the series, any tips/advice for beginners? I figured, being a prequel, this would be a decent jumping-on point. It it? Or should I start with one of the other ones?

I feel like Majima in general has a really hard time with enemies that block, at least without using Heat actions. If you're in Thug style you can grab but that takes forever, and don't ask me how the hell you're supposed to break through in Breaker style.

Bat style's nunchucku thing with the bat itself murders the gently caress out of people who try to block, especially if you unlocked the ability to make that move last longer.

That works fine in normal fights but in Climax battles it takes way too much time. I was having trouble with 2-6 (the Breaker melee battle) anyway. Thanks for the tip, though; that move is indeed really good

In case you haven't beaten it, I found the best way to deal with that challenge (Melee Battle 6) is to use the Breaker combo square x3 triangle. Enemies can't seem to deal with it for long assuming you can get into the final part of the combo without getting interrupted.

If I ever get in a street fight I'm gonna make sure it's in a place with lots of bicycles around because they are the ultimate weapon.

In other news, in Star Wars 3 Anakin Skywalker becomes Darth Vader. In Star Wars 5, we learn he is Luke Skywalker's father.

I had trouble believing the latter was possible until I searched my feelings and realized it was true.

don't be afraid if you spend an embarrassing amount of time just loving around, that's playing the game correctly. there's nothing missable except a trophy or two so you can take things at your own pace

also make sure to check your heat moves list(in abilities+details) when you start out, a lot of new players seem to miss how they work for a good while

other than that yeah just have fun and punch dudes

To add to that, the platinum requires two playthroughs anyway and the missable trophies are only story related, so you can sweep them on the repeat playthrough if you care about missing those kind of things.

Finally beat all the climax battles. After ultimate battle 2, the rest were relatively pain free. The only things left to do is get 100% completion (mahjong and getting all the fish) and win ten bets at JCC.

Plot/tone talking point from Chapter 13: so I get how Kiryu is all about not killing people (Hi Kuze, let's fight for the 78th time), but then in the car chase when he gets given the pistol he literally murders like 200 people. What's up with that? Why do something like that that setpiece but spend the rest of the entire game stressing how he doesn't kill people?

MalarkeyToboggan

Even when you know the optimal way to get strikes it still requires a little bit of luck. Just keep trying and you'll get it eventually.

The biggest tragedy is that Nugget is almost useless as a manager. Why does this chicken not understand the intricacies of the real estate market?

they're fine, don't worry about it

gameplay fights are basically cartoon violence

Crappy Jack

We got some serious shit to discuss.

The cutscenes and gameplay of Yakuza might as well take place in separate universes. Don't get hung up on it too much. This is a series where you can shoot random thugs in the face with a shotgun and two seconds later, they'll be apologizing and handing you money as an apology, and yet in a cutscene if someone pulls a gun, it's treated as a major plot revelation.

Just repeat to yourself "It's just a game, I should really just relax".

Yinlock
Oct 22, 2008

yeah if someone gets hit with a grenade in plot it's incredibly serious, if someone gets grenaded in a gameplay fight they'll fly 20 feet in the air and land directly on their neck complete with realistic bone-crunching and a cartoon slide-whistle

they will then get up after the fight and give you 20 bucks

Another 1? Aww man...
You snap Komaki's neck three times in a single fight as part of Majima's tutorials.

It is still hard to swallow them building an entire gameplay segment just for Kiryu headshotting and exploding guys when everything else is all about 'no killing, ever!', without doing something to reconcile the two, but this is a situation where

Crappy Jack posted:

You're also constantly stabbing people with knives in the gut and they end up fine. It's like the Yakuza team just makes decisions based on how cool the outcome is.

A design philosophy I completely agree with.

Ugh, the phone club minigame is the worst. It's not at all challenging, so it's not really fun, and it's not quick because you can't skip any of the cheesecake porn bits, and then at the end of it sometimes you have to loving basically flip a coin to see if you can actually complete the substory.

I befriended Rikku so now I have someone to call for karaoke, I might not bother doing any more.

Also maybe one day I'll leave chapter 6 and unlock Majima's addictive minigame, so I'll probably be in chapter 7 for 30 hours.

Even If you did want to apply narrative logic to combat murder vs cutscene murder. They probably as consider heat of the moment kicking a knife wielding guy out of a third story bathroom window to be perfectly legit, compared to deciding you're going to murder the poo poo out of a guy who isn't in any position to fight anymore.

Not out of any moral differences of right vs wrong. But because it's just not as manly to kill a guy while he's down :v:

A large part of the Real Estate stuff going smoother outside of the difference in cash gains, is that it's hands off. So you can go do other side content and the hardest part is going "Fiiiine, I'll go to the office to pick up my pile of cash".

As the club has a minigame that will take about 5 minutes minimum every time, on top of the menus to set up or switch out your girls, even plowing through it still means you are doing nothing but the club minigame. So even if you kind of like the club game like I did, it can drag on.

It's stupid how addictive real estate is, figuring out whether to waste money on Miracle Johnson to improve something quickly or use someone much cheaper and take forever to get the store to S rank, and going out to scout new locations, not to mention turf wars, it's great.

I don't get the complaints about having to shove you face into every storefront to see if you can buy it, with VERY few exceptions the places you can buy are super obvious and the "Look" prompt comes up as long as you're on the correct side of the road. It's trivially easy to find places to buy and also fun.

I just started playing this and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I just confronted Toko Credit guy and had the Kuze reveal, but haven't been able to do any side activities yet other than beating random scrubs and smashing bikes over their heads. When do the side activities open up? And what does it mean when there's a chime and a minimap pulse?

Also, that first karaoke spot doing Shinpan - Judgment was amazing.

Yeah I didn't know how the game was structured other than it had chapters. I'm at the "find out more about Tachibana" part now and I've been able to do a few. Karaoke's definitely my favourite so far.
