Hopefully no weight system because come on going all the way in removing class restrictions to just slap a much sillier one with equipment

There are no bonuses for being underweight, just penalties for being over. Now that sounds negative, but it means you are not basically penalized for using more than one gun or using particularly heavy guns if you are a heavy power-focused build; you can always take at least some number of toys with you when you want to play. Just don't get too greedy unless you don't care about cooldowns.

edit: double checking that article, it doesn't seem to contradict me, and I've seen screenshots of the weight meter before. It's probably somewhere upthread.

So are there random encounters or are we in a 'theoretically there's no level cap, but there's only actually so much EXP in the game'.

I still remember ME1 taking like 2 and 1/2 playthroughs to hit 60 because there just wasn't enough EXP in the game.

I have seen no comments on level scaling, but we can think a bit about your character limitations: Ryder in the IGN video had something like 500 HP at level 28 or something, and 800 in the official powers/profiles video where she's level 56. Health and Shields are more than likely governed by armor and skill rank (such as the Barrier skill to improve shields), and no skill goes higher than 6. Guns, even ones you craft, seem to be tiered, with roman numeral designations telling you what tier they are, and they will probably cap out at X like I think they did in ME3 and the multiplayer. You can only carry three abilities and one profile on an active favorite, and swapping favorites triggers a cooldown so you can't just learn everything and spam it all mindlessly, at least not in theory.

So you can level forever, but doing so only allows you to make more profiles and have more sets that you can switch to, and those have built in caps. Once you get enough levels to fill out your favorite three abilities, you start spending them on maxing out your favorite profile, and that is basically a "max" character, except you can keep leveling until you max out a few more profiles/skills, and then swap to those when you want to switch, but the difficulty and your ability to break it depends on how things respond to your highest skill, which only goes up to 6.

edit: Essentially, you can level Ryder the Vanguard to level 10 or whatever, cap him out, and then level Ryder the Engineer to 10, but you don't have to switch from Vanguard to level up Engineer. Vanguard just won't get any more stupidly powerful.

What I meant was that it seems like the checkmark level 6 guy could be the one that is currently selected for play, but the display character is changing as they scroll through other options (which is also why that top row level 7 with a similar helmet is highlighted.)

They are basically going to be the same as the preorder special edition weapons/armor from Inquisition. Ian Frazier explained on twitter that they start out slightly better than poo poo you can get at the start of the game, but stuff you can buy and craft will replace it statistically sooner or later, and upgraded schematics are level gated. Expect there to be a box next to your crafting station that occasionally lets you know you have mail as you reach higher levels. I am not going to go digging through all his tweets to double check, but I believe he said they will not be literal palette swaps of guns in game; they will have some characteristics that make them different from other guns you can make in the game, at least in the technical sense.

Yea, you can get a decent look at how it works in the first combat video: It looks a lot more forgiving than ME3's was.

The article says you probably won't be maxing out until your second or third playthrough. But it's also more like Creep said, there's a limit to the powers you can have active at once, and they all max out at 6, it's just that eventually you can have everything unlocked and try out whatever you want.

The issue with reused assets isn't that they use them, it's whether they use them well and it makes sense to use them. So if you see 19 of the same cave it's an issue, but seeing a couple of prefab buildings designed to be uniform around isn't a big deal.

It's also less of a concern in multiplayer because the same levels get played over and over again anyway.

That's not what gaslighting means you hyperbolic dipshit.
One of my gripes about Mass Effect 2 and 3 was that Bioware abandoned their weapon cooldown system of the first game.

I remember that before 2 came out, the devs talked about a hybrid ammo system of slow-cooldown thermal clips, where each clip you had would cool at a reasonable rate until you completely blew one out, in which case it would take a much longer time to cool, but you had multiple clips to circulate through. The idea was that if you played conservatively and reloaded responsibly you'd basically never run out of ammo because you'd always have a full clip that was fully cooled down and ready to reload... or you could go hog wild with ammo and unload a full clip on something, but then pay for it by that clip going on cooldown for a while and being pulled out of rotation until the cooldown completed. As you progressed through the game, you'd be able to increase the number of clips you could carry at once.

This idea would have been amazing, but instead they went with a totally stock ammo system. Lame. Glad to see they're at least giving players the option of rolling with thermal weapons this time around.

Between that and removing global cool downs, I'm kinda optimistic about how this game's combat might end up turning out.
