Just heard a song on some local-ish station in the UK that plays old songs and all that.

Only caught the end but it sounded very similar to the instrumental bit in Mike Posner's Cooler than Me.

Very 80's sounding but with a saxophone as the lead instrument but other than that sounded very similar, same kind of chord progression, beat and feel.

Faded straight into the next song so there was no announcement of the track title or anything, fuckers.

Could it have been "Harden My Heart" by Quarterflash?

I'm looking for a Japanese house music video, probably from the last decade. It's very energetic and cheerful synth music with vocals, kind of reminiscent of French house (daft punk, Tepr). The video itself is a scrolling collage of lovely web 2.0 gifs. Not an anime thing.

I think the group came out with at least one album, but the name escapes me. Help!

Googling this was difficult because a bunch of jerks names their band The Japanese House. 80kidz are pretty great if you liked Justice fyi.

I'm looking for a nu-metal song that has the words "can't get you out of my head" in the chorus. It's the last line of each verse of the chorus. Googling that phrase just gets me some Kylie Minogue song.

I'm not sure I would call Theory of a Deadman nu-metal, but it's the closest thing I've found.

This one that fell into a memory rift for me is from the late 80s early 90s probably. It was along the lines of the Residents but different. It's a simple guitar punkcountry type thing. I think of Primus too but I am pretty sure it is not them. The lyrics go "I got me some toenails. BIG delicious toenails. I trim them nicely. I take them into town. I show them to my friends, hey looky there! Aren't these the best toenails from anywhereee."

I'm looking for a song featuring a male singer, probably someone oldish, with a deep voice. Off the top of my head, it might be Leonard Cohen or someone who sounds like him. The song also has what sounds like a childrens choir. As I recall, the old man and the childrens choir were singing at different times. They might have been repeating eachother slightly.

I didn't catch any of the words but the song sounded ever so slightly like Hallelujah and my best guess is that the theme is in the vicinity of religion, possibly Christmas.

I'm trying to remember an indie song and I've got very little to go on: it might have been called "waiting for you", I think the chorus was something like "I'll be here waiting for you", I remember patterned wallpaper in the video (maybe? my recollection of videos is usually terrible) and it was on MTV loads back around the early 2000s (same time as "Mr Brightside" and "Take Me Out", if I remember rightly). I think the band's name possibly had something to do with the word "sea" and they were probably from northern england. Anyone got a clue what I'm on about? Googling "waiting for you" gets me a ton of unrelated stuff.

Edit: it was "Dreaming of You" by The Coral, so I was sort of close but also wrong about every detail :v:

A song came on this morning on a pirate radio station in my town (KWFUCC)
It alternates between two parts,
First part is a man singing droning chants, each note held for about 5-8 seconds before going to another one. Not really fast, not meditative chants where they do the same note for a half hour.
Then it flips into dubstep, but it's mostly the same note over and over again with a few variations.
I have no idea how to describe dubstep sounds.

I know this is a weird longshot. I'll try to record it or something I guess if it comes on again.

Hi, I've been listening to a lot of They Might Be Giants, and in this song

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZ4J-jvDAuQ

the melody for

When you're following an angel
Does it mean you have to throw your body off a building?
Somewhere they're meeting on a pinhead
Calling you an angel, calling you the nicest things

sounds really familiar. Can anyone tell me where else that melody is used?

Not identical, but the FFVII Gold Saucer theme has a very similar meter and note progression.

Back in the mid 2000's I swore I heard a song by Linkin Park, or at least Mike Shinoda, about some guy who pulled up to a pawn shop with "no plates on his car", these being the only drat lyrics I even remember. He goes into the shop and gives his wedding rings, one he got off his I believe dead wife and gets a bullet instead. He then goes home and shoots himself in the head.

Am I insane or am I thinking of a completely different band?

First result when googling for "Mike Shinoda pawn shop": http://www.karaoketexty.cz/texty-pisni/shinoda-mike/spray-paint-ink-pens-515970

Let my begin by saying I don't think this man knew what he had in store
He opened the door and found the bag under the floor
Not a peep, always working a lot, get the flame, aim, pop
Open the box and take off out the back of the pawn shop
Scoping the lot, hoping the cops hadn't seen the plates on his car
He felt like he been hustling so hard like a demon he pumped a cold heart
Play it cool like Humphrey Bogart, put the rings on his chain attached by both parts
He did the drop, one ring in a bag, envelope, all the money he had
Left the money and the ring in a slow exhale
Two weeks went by, got a box in the mail
In the box was a bullet made of gold
Melted down from the ring, recast with two rings and a band
And he stared at it sitting in the palm of his hand
And sat down next to a picture that sat on the nightstand
It was his wife in the picture on his side
With the ring on the finger on the week that she died
As he looked in the reflection, at those eyes so red
He put the bullet in a gun and put it right in his head like that

This song starts out with what sounds like modulated string chords - almost like harpsichords - and goes:

DUN dun dun dun
dun dun DUN dun dun dun
dun den DUN dun dun dun
etc

it's a dark song with electronic overtones and features a female vocalist. the chorus sounds something like 'WE REACH FOR THE WORRL, REACH FOR THE WORLLL' but it's obviously not those words. there's a part where the woman says something about dying and then the beat...drops? please help me.

it's very haunting and echo-y

there's a nonzero chance that the album cover is black with some kind of white thing on it

Portishead are the group that immediately come to mind when anyone talks about a female vocalist in a dark, electronic-driven band, but I'm not sure I can really fit any tracks into the early parts of the description. Might still be worth looking into them, though. The Rip? Threads? Less likely still, Glory Box?

Bang Bang
Looking for a song based entirely on the music video - I was at the gym and saw it on a screen that was far away. I was wearing headphones so couldn't hear anything but it looked like it'd be pop / chart within the last 5 years.

As far as I could tell, the video features a girl with black hair singing / dancing in the street during the daytime. She's wearing a red skirt (maybe shorts) at the start and a red dress that she swishes around with her dancing at the end. There might've been backing dancers in some / all of the scenes too. Bright, cheerful, not particularly edgy. The main reason I remember it is that I thought it looked like a Carly Rae Jepsen video that I hadn't seen before and, being a big CRJ fan, I thought it'd be easy enough to look up when I got home.

Checking YouTube, it doesn't seem like it's one of hers and now I'm wondering what the hell it was. I expect it's bad but, y'know, it's bugging me.
