My sister has a couple of tabbies. Unfortunately neither of them are particularly fat.

This is Moshy. He's just over a year old, and somehow spent the first couple of months of his life in a shelter, despite the fact that he's incredibly sweet and gentle. When I visited by sister just after she got him he had a hard time coordinating himself, probably because he had always been couped up in a cage. He's gotten things pretty well figured out now, but he still has a silly, stompy walk that I've never seen from another cat. I only see him every couple of weeks at most, but he always jumps up on my lap to give me headbutts and receive pets.

This is Bumby. He's about three years old and has issues. He nearly always wants to be around people, but almost never wants anyone to pet him. Or walk near him. Or look at him. And, if they do, he has a very short fuse and a mean slap. Despite this, he sleeps with his people every night, and has absolutely no problem with being pushed around on the bed. And only at night. And only on the bed.

The first time I met him he jumped on my lap and let me pet him for a couple of hours. Every time I've seen him after that he's wanted me dead. Sometimes he sees me walking up to the door and starts growling.

He is a very strange cat.

Bumby sounds a bit like my cat, Moaterboat - he likes hanging out near me, and being petted, but not too much or else he leaves. And don't pick him up. And don't expect him to hang out in your lap, it's not comfortable enough without a cushy blanket on it. And even then the stars have to align.

And yet he really, really loves being brushed (and petted), so who knows. He's asleep in his rocking chair on a blanket right now. :3:

Bumby is also a pretty big fan of being brushed, at least in comparison to being pet. There seems to be a common thread here.

I also forgot to mention what is probably his most bizarre habbit, that being the fact that he absolutely loves shoes, but only shoes from people visiting. He couldn't care less about my sister's shoes, but anytime they have someone over Bumby makes a beeline for their shoes and acts like he's hit the motherload of catnip.

I've seen him rolling around and rubbing up against a pair of shoes for over an hour. But again, only if the shoes are a guest's. 1He also likes sitting on the purses of, again, only house guests. If someone brings a purse, and it's laying down, he's sitting on it. At least when he's done bathing in their shoes.

Well one of the big reasons for the cat and dog thing is that an awful lot of their body language has almost reversed meanings.
