You ever see a movie that apparently exists in your head and every shot and every beat you think of happens right in front of your eyes? That's Kong for me. Maybe it's not the best movie or whatever, but for me, its loving dope as gently caress and almost perfect??!!!! Holy poo poo.

Saw Kong tonight and it is indeed some super dope poo poo with amazing shots. There's also some creative tool use in the final fight as well as great uses of location. It's all in the intersection of things. Tom Hiddleston fights a pterosaur with a katana while wearing a gas mask.

So spoilers for Kong Skull Island So John C. Riley's character crash lands on Skull Island and has been there for 28 years. So he's basically the exposition for our main characters. This is the crazy ol Island kook that normally dies through some means. Like he's been good for all this time but these new folk ruin it and he dies horribly. He's even got a backstory where he still wants to find his wife and kid when he gets back just to say hey. So fuckin he's totally dead right? I sat there going man I'd be dope if he lived and saw his family..... They do that scene at the end and it's so heartwarming and sweet it made me tear up. So drat good.

I thought the incident you were mentioning was when the heroic sacrifice character gets studied by the monster for a bit, then the monster bats him out of the way instead of eating him so he dies for no reason. But yes JCR is a gift.

I'll probably see Kong: Skull Island at the end of this week, but so far I'm watching My Golden Days, which I didn't even realize was a prequel to some other French flick, but which is nonetheless really good and y'all should see. I'm unnecessarily hyped for Kong: Skull Island - I bet it's almost as good as Godzilla.

The cinematography is incredible. I'm not trying to sound pretentious but almost every shot is exactly how I would shoot it. They even throw some San Raimi shots early on and I was like, gently caress. This movie is my spirit animal.

The skull crawlers aren't nearly as interesting as the MUTOs.
