The funny thing is that for almost any given gun control measure, a solid majority of Americans will actually support enactment as safe and sane. But somehow it doesn't matter, they are still "gun people" and vote for pro-gun politicians.

I mean, someone might be pro-pancake production, but they're not gonna enlist in a war to defend their buttery soft goodness, theres limits to how far people will support Thing, and the limit for pro-control is hilariously low.

My point is that they vote for politicians who oppose all gun control, including the mild measures that the voters themselves (allegedly) actually support. So it's like they believe in limited pancake production, but always vote for the guy who believes pancakes are actually the devil and will pour all of our taxes into subsidizing waffle production just to show how much he hates pancakes.

Maybe that guy has a syrup recipe and a flavored butter way worth a thousand years of waffles? That's really the crux here; most people, when required to give something up to otherwise get most of what they want, tend to put Gun Control really far down on the list pretty consistently.

It doesn't help that lots of pieces of gun control legislation are functionally useless in terms of reducing gun violence and pretty much only make gun owners' lives more difficult. There's no sane reason to restrict suppressors (they aren't magic gun quieters, they're more like mufflers) and there's an excellent health care reason not to (reducing hearing damage). Restrictions of certain types of semi-automatic rifles of the kind beloved of NRA members does gently caress all to reduce inner city gun crimes carried out with handguns.

This theoretical politician doesn't exist in the Democratic Party. Meanwhile Republican's are supporting a full reciprocity law, which is also something much of the country except for the hilariously out of touch coasts, support.

Being serious for just a moment, but in terms of bad beliefs, I probably wouldn't hold some mild vaccine skepticism against someone like Killer Michael given the history that African Americans have had with medicine in this country. Now if he went full Jenny McCarthy instead of just posting some dumb videos I'd be more up in arms, but yeah there is historical precedent for AA's to be more cautious about the American medical establishment.

Bernie Sanders was a racist though. He lied about fighting for civil rights and claimed a picture of Bruce Rappaport fighting for civil rights was actually him. I read about it in real news outlet The Washington Post in a real news article by real newsman Jonathan Capehart.

Jonathan Capehart is still employed as a real newsman by real news outlet The Washington Post so the story must have been true.

Surprise surprise: intense GOTV efforts to raise turnout in urban areas is way more effective than dumping millions of ads to flip suburban whites that will never vote for you

This isn't particularly surprising. Establishment dems in Texas have done such wonderful things as making feeding the homeless without permits a crime (which they use to take food and supplies charities give the homeless and throw them in the trash)

I'm glad this group is showing once again that differentiating yourself instead of chasing republican coattails is the more effective strategy, even in the Deep South.

gently caress that, we had an answerable proof to this before Trump even announced. Just look at the right wing haven to your north, Alberta.

Run as a Centrist appeasement party? 9% rump status. Actually run as a left wing party in the crazyland I was born in? Surprise, against all odds you take 41% and win a majority.

you surely are greatly underestimating the impact that tying gun control to no fly lists with no oversight would have on dramatically improving the livability of these neighborhoods. this is why the democrats made sure to have a large grandstanding sit-in on this specific issue.

Because we arent voting on individual gun control measures? We are voting for people. And the antigun people act like they really want to ban guns but are only proposing their half measures because they cant get what they really want. Which isnt exactly a vote winning stance for people who dont want that to happen!
