I'm excited for the "convertible supercars in the US" segment they advertised.

Great reboot of show after the Evans year of poo poo, still felt a little like they were trying to replicate classic Top Gear moments (among a few other similarities, the fanfare music they played when Rory was shown driving the un-embanked Black Cab sounded an awful lot like the music they played when the Hilux would be restarted after something ridiculous that should have killed it.) BBC showing off their blanket music usage rights with Star Wars music, etc. was fun and a direct jab at Amazon's lack of ability to do the same thing. Definitely going to be interesting to see hamfisted drivers trying to keep the GT86 in a straight line like they could with the considerably easier to drive FWD previous Reasonably Priced Cars. Thank god they got rid of that shitfest offroad track.

The Hilux segments use La Resa Dei Conti by Ennio Morricone. Old New Top Gear used it in several episodes, and used Morricone a LOT to begin with. This scene used the same music sting but the song as a whole is different and the recording much more recent, I think it's another Ennio Morricone track from one of the Tarantino movies. This episode also used some E.S. Posthumus, who showed up a lot in Old New Top Gear, but was featured most heavily in the North Pole special.

It was a clear improvement over the Evans fronted Top Gear but I still don't think the presenters have the natural chemistry that facilitates the Clarkson, Hammond and May style banter. I love Matt Leblanc to bits but he feels very out of place when put next to Rory and Chris. Lets hope that it improves in the later episodes.

I enjoyed every minute of that. So nice to not have to squint through dumb vignetting, studio segments felt fast and that FXXK segment was great. It's one of the big things i hope Wilman stops being so reliant on in Grand Tour, you've got the most expensive cameras out there and you're releasing in 4K, stop putting dumb filters on everything. Was very surprised Chris Harris got the opportunity to do that first segment, figured he was still deep enough on the Ferrari poo poo-list. I guess him owning and gushing about his 512, plus the Top Gear pull mends some bridges.

I'm guessing the BBC says "Chris Harris is our best driver, so he's driving it, end of story."

Leblanc was great in the first episode. His chemistry with Chris in particular got plenty of laughs from me and my wife (who was totally bored dead by Grand Tour). The show felt overall much more natural than TGT. I got goosebumps because it finally felt like Top Gear is back, even if it is with different people. Weird.

I haven't bothered with Extra Gear this series because it's not really needed anymore. Last series Extra Gear was actually better than the main show at times. And yeah I understand CHM love, but this new trio works better than GT's on screen chemistry so far.

Sabine is a good guest star, so I look forward to seeing her on the show again, she's just didn't fit in as one of the lead hosts.

She can drive and has a funny accent. So put her in a car so she can say funny things in a funny accent while driving fast. Anything more than that and she becomes more annoying than anything. Eddie on the other hand had no redeeming qualities at all. EDIT: Having Sabine instead of Harris as the driving instructor would've worked, but Harris worked out well too so. Extra Gear should be all Sabine thrashing manufacturer-loaned supercars. I don't need to hear weather or not a main show host enjoyed filming their segment.

Yeah the BBC has some rule where they can steal any copyright music as long as it's only for showing within the U.K. or something like that. It's nice, I loved hearing Atlas by Battles in the show, but frankly I'd rather they just edit things to the music they're eventually going to use for worldwide tv/streaming distribution . Maybe it's that I'm a video editor but I hate knowing the version I'll eventually see in the future is just carefully chosen buyout music that's shoehorned into segments they edited to the pace of some song I can't remember but was probably better. I never really understood the point of a news segment on a show that only airs a few weeks out of the year. I didn't miss it at all. Definitely liking this new Top Gear.

IIRC, the news segment was there to fit some BBC rule about consumer information, because they wouldn't fund a show that was just guys driving cars.

I'm still not that partial to LeBlanc. He sounds the most like he's reading from a script at all times, whereas Chris and Rory sounded like they were at least genuinely geeking out about various specs if nothing else. The most natural moment from him is when he got out of his car in Kazakhstan and just started kicking the muffler off.

When i was a video editor - our 'go to' song from memory was something called 'Just Folks'. If we heard that song in the final product it was either as an inside joke, or most likely - client wouldn't spring for licencing real music. I really love that 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia' uses old public domain songs.

I like the new setup. We'll see how it rolls over time, but they went with the exact same lead trio I was hoping for. And yeah that was weird hearing a Bring Me the Horizon song in an edit, and as a matter of fact I think Grand Tour used one of their songs in one episode as well.

There's definitely a lot of potential for a great series with this new crew. Rory in particular could become very, very fun to watch, and Chris Harris the driving instructor is a good call. Even the celebrity hanging around a lot longer could be fun once the three new guys figure out how things work for them. And like everyone has said, Hammond/May/Clarkson Top Gear didn't really find its groove until the fourth series, so I'm openly optimistic that this new crew will make it work.

I could stand for Harris to be a little less indignant about how bad the celebrities drive though. Clarkson would often poke fun, showing repeated clips a celebrity that accidentally 180'd or went on the grass on the frequently wet track, and that's fine. Chris though, seemed like he was way too personally offended that someone who's not an avid car fan kept driving poorly on a wet track in a RWD car with skinny tires? That's gonna happen a lot so get used to it.
