Sounds like Tanner Glass needs some top 6 time IMO. Can't ever have enough grit at the top of your lineup, especially in the playoffs.

The big problem with making the nets bigger is it makes every net in the world obsolete. It'd be like if the NBA changed the rim size or height.

I don't understand what going back to 80's scores of 8-5 would accomplish. Hockey games aren't fun to watch based on the score.

Don't need to make nets bigger anyways. Do something decisive about goalie pads first. And I don't buy the "we need them like this for protection" argument. Materials science is loving bonkers these days and it has to be possible to use carbon fiber and gels and other fancy poo poo to guarantee the goalie never ever feels a puck hitting him.

No changing on an icing is somewhat of a dumb idea to begin with, and I definitely don't like the no timeout thing. That type of poo poo is likely to lead to injuries with exhausted players on the ice who can't get off.

No that does not equate to NHL experience but it's not like pucks are hitting supersonic speeds. No that does not equate to NHL experience but it's not like pucks are hitting supersonic speeds. You have zero context for taking a 100+ mph slapshot. I don't either, but spreading out that force with a smaller surface area and less room to crumple (smaller pads) is an intrinsically harder problem. You need extended time of impact to distribute force, and big fluffy pads do that. Cut the surface area, and you take more of the force of impact at once. Sure you could try and spread that impact to more surface area on the goalie's body itself, but that's not a "add some gel" fix Get rid of the blue lines, IMO. You wanna rover, whatever. You're taking liberties with your own defense.

Tanner Glass is just about right for a 16th forward. So far he's played hard and sparked the team a bit by being a demo of "how to play hard-nosed hockey" in five minutes a night on "easy" difficulty against the other team's bottom line.

Goalie pads are made to be bigger than is necessary for protection, especially at the shoulders, arms, and knees. They even advertise this as features in advertising copy. They could lose a LOT of padding and still have plenty of protection.

Spring Break My Heart posted:I'm not even necessarily against increasing the net size, but they have made minimal efforts to actually increase scoring in the last few years (basically just the 3 on 3 overtime), and also added a measure to decrease scoring with the challenges. They have certainly made no major efforts to increase scoring since 2005. They haven't done any tiny little changes, even a rule emphasis since the ill-fated faceoff violations stuff of 2013. What if they called penalties again, instead of calling the fewest in history? Just a thought. It's been only recently that the GMs have admitted to any attempts, and as far as I am aware Bettman has said nothing and rebuked any attempts to do so. Yeah, calling penalties seems like the most obvious change to make. Just enforce the rules that already exist.

Call more penalties, but I don't want it to go back to post-lockout when there was a penalty every 8 seconds.

The NHLPA only pays lip service to the fact that goalies could get hurt with reduced equipment. Look at anything they wore prior to 1995, it was nothing compared to the michelin man suits they strap on today and it's not like there was an epidemic of broken ribs and shattered kneecaps among the netminders of yesteryear. Goaltenders have spent the last twenty years building themselves up as the most integral part of a hockey team. If the NHLPA were to allow greatly reduced equipment size they'd be dramatically reducing the effectiveness of a good portion of their members. No team is going to keep paying a premium for goalies if the average SV% drops markedly overnight, and the NHLPA would have a revolt from (at least) 10% of their paid members. The NHLPA has focused on propping up the pay and notoriety of its defensive players and goaltenders since the late 90s. They can hardly back pedal now.
