quote:As we discussed yesterday during the NXT & Beyond audio show in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, there will be some segments on tonight's Impact that knocks the previous regime. While there were a number of wrestlers backstage who felt it was a shot at the roster as much as previous members of management, Eli Drake became upset and confronted Jeff Jarrett about it and the two had a discussion. It was never described to me as getting ugly but Drake voiced some frustrations the existing roster was having with the changeover last week. There were talents who felt the shots at the previous regime were unfair because they didn't see them as a shot at management, but as everyone who had been working there. Since they had been perservering long before Anthem purchased the company, despite not knowing if and when it would fall apart and whether they would get the money they were owed - a number of talents felt there was nothing wrong with their work (and certainly, the product didn't suck) but the message the segments sent ruffled some feathers. So, Drake went right to Jarrett and voiced that. We are told he spoke with both Jarrett and Bruce Prichard. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=108246

Polygon isn't very good but they actually wrote a good article explaining how THQ imploded. http://www.polygon.com/covers/2014/12/9/7257209/the-fall-of-thq tl;dr - It was a perfect storm of being stuck in multi-year big money licensing agreements when mobile gaming started eating consoles' lunch, trying to shift to AAA games instead of mobile, bad management, burning alot of money chasing flash in the pan trends like MMORPGs/novelty gaming peripherals and a bankruptcy judge blocking a last ditch effort to save the company.

whiteyfats posted:Thanks! I think your thinking of Acclaim, which released a bunch of awful wrestling games because they still had the WWF license from years past. They released WWF War Zone, WWF Attitude, then 2 ECW games on the same engine, then the 3 Legends of Wrestling Games. WCW was getting a bunch of great games from THQ, WCW Vs The World, WCW/nWo Revenge, then they decided to dump THQ and went with EA. WWF proceeded to dump Acclaim and go with THQ. THQ released WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and then No Mercy.

-everything to do with Josh Mathews and this Borash douche is pinging my Russo "we just worked our shoot into a shoot work within a workshoot wrapped in a shootey-worky-internet shwoorkoot" douche-dar so hard -who are these Reno Scum douchebags and why is one of them wearing paintbrushes for sideburns -wait, these are GFW dudes, I bet -they won, which reinforces my suspicions -and their entrance theme is lame. The spoilers were bad enough, but Josh and Borash bickering is already as bad as heel Cole and will make this unwatchable. A new team debuts, Josh asks "which one's Mosh and which one's the other guy?" and then they talk about his failed men's fashion podcast.

By the end of its life Saints Row and the WWE license were the only things keeping THQ afloat. Saints Row suddenly became a big deal with 3, though, and it looked like there might be light at the end of the tunnel for THQ, but in late 2012 the debtors smelled blood and all came calling at once, not unlike what happened to TNA last year, but on a much bigger scale. That left them in need of a huge cash infusion basically immediately. They promoted the Saints Row 3 DLC Enter the Dominatrix into the core of what became Saints Row 4 in the hopes of getting a full sequel out as quickly as possible, but there just wasn't enough time, and the company collapsed. I still think that if they hadn't lost so much money on Udraw they could have pulled through. They ended up losing like a hundred million on that, and if they hadn't lost that money they might have been able to crawl their way to the release of SR4, which turned out to be huge, and the Gat Out of Hell sold well not long after.
