I really do hope this game has a successful rebirth. There is nothing else remotely like it on this earth.

I'm also willing to believe that the TSW community isn't terrible, for the most part. (I base this on the complete lack of Kirsten Geary porn that I have seen when googling quest text)

I've also heard they are relaunching the game at the end of March with a totally reworked skill and combat system. That sounds interesting.

I hope they completely gut the ability wheel. Not just because it'll make all the 'hardcore' players shriek and clutch their panoptic cores, but because I might be able to stick around longer than two days before I remember that my build is poo poo, that I've blown a ton of AP on other, forgotten attempts to make a better one, and that rerunning missions wears out quickly. :(

But that's the entire fun in the combat system. For example I got back at 10.4/4 with a couple .5's and my build had trouble holding aggro to the 10.9/5s and 11s so I slotted in a couple passives and was able to hold aggro just fine.

TSW's ability wheel and classless characters are some of its greatest unique strengths, and removing them would be as big a mistake as what SOE did with Star Wars Galaxies and the NGE: completely changing what the people who actually play the game like about it, all to attract an audience that didn't care about your game before and probably still won't after.

Honestly, you should have enough skills for a good amount of build variety by the time you finish Egypt. As always, I think the game's biggest weakness is that it does a poor job of introducing players to the real mechanics of combat and how to make effective builds (or craft, or do pretty much anything). The game's underlying mechanics are fantastic, but poorly explained.

I wouldn't object to them reducing the cost of outer wheel skills to get newer players up to speed faster, though.

You have everything unlocked, though.

I agree that the wheel is a good thing - theoretically. Practically even after a bunch of revamps there's too much crap on it acting as traps to new and returning players. And even though the game is apparently being focused on again, I doubt Funcom of all developers has the resources to properly polish and balance the hundreds of skills.

Removing it isn't necessary, but pruning and rebalancing the skills' effects and costs would help.

That's true I do have everything. Not sure where exactly they all fall in the wheel but agitator, fuel to the fire, and you're next all gen hate.

Razor shards into stones throw or clearing the path (keep meaning to see if there's a pbaoe for blades that makes extra hate and isn't crimson theater) so you get a hate boost.

Builder is blade torrent.

The other three are impairs or stoicism if I really need it.

Typically I take the chainsaw with timber and the rotting teeth hate buff.

It can get dicey at times if they get lucky crit/pens but it's normally fine.

Kessel
Mar 6, 2007

If they don't have the resources to rebalance everything again they should just make the outer rings of the wheel cheaper, as stated. The combat is way more fun when you can try out a variety of builds / slot what you actually want.

According to a post on the Funcom forums any day now....but remember Tokyo was supposed to be March 2013 and we didn't get anything from that until what mid-2014?

Um, relaunching as a separate service, rebuilt as an action MMO, improved visuals, improved quest flow, improved UI.

Original servers will still be up, all characters start fresh, but you can transfer vanity items and memberships cover both?

Also, free to play. All content updates past, present and future will be free.

Is the game “Pay to Win” now?
No. You will be able to earn everything in the game without spending money.

"Aurum is used to purchase a variety of in-game items and services in Secret World Legends. This includes but is not limited to: additional weapon pages, extra inventory space, additional characters, exclusive vanity items, and much more!"

I'd suggest Tokyo's absence means they're shitcanning the loving AEGIS system but hope is a mistake. :v:

It's been years and I'm pretty sure I stopped playing after running out of stuff to do in Blue Mountain, so it may not make much of a difference. I think I.. may have bought some hats? That was a thing, right?

According to the producer (https://secretworldlegends.com/news/letter_from_the_producer/):

quote:

a free transfer process will allow you to move vanity items like Mounts, Pets, Vehicles, and other customizations that have been purchased through the item store from The Secret World to your characters in Secret World Legends
Also if you were grandmaster in the original you'll be grandmaster in legends too.

A city that was to live by night after the wilderness had passed. A city that was to forge out of steel and blood-red neon its own peculiar wilderness.

quote:

Your online name in a game represents who you are, so we want to make sure that our current players in The Secret World (TSW) have a chance to reserve their name in Secret World Legends.

On April 5th at 10:00 EDT (14:00 UTC) during the weekly downtime on TSW we will be archiving all characters that have not logged in during the past 6 months.

At the same time, we will purge the Name Reservation List on The Secret World account page.
Once TSW comes back online at 12:00 EDT (16:00 UTC) you will be able to create a character using any of the freed-up names
On the TSW account page you will be able to select which character name you would like to reserve for use in Secret World Legends. Please note you can only reserve one name per account.
You can only reserve character names that exist on your TSW account.
Once Secret World Legends goes live you will be able to link your Secret World Legends and TSW account and claim your reserved name.
The new Secret World Legends name reservation page will be available until Secret World Legends goes live. Any name reserved will be available for 3 months after the relaunch.

We look forward to seeing you on Secret World Legends!

If you haven't played for a while(like me). Launch the game and log in if you have a name you like.

I wish they would give a hint as to when this is actually happening. TSW never should have been an MMO, and I'm interested to see the direction they take with the "new" game. Also what is up with people sticking 'legends' at the end of game titles these days. Must have tested really good in a focus group 5 years ago to not bother coming up with something new.

It will be a open-world sanbox survival game set in post-apocalypse new york. It will be the result of people FAILING the end-game raid and what happened.

That sounds actually kind of cool.

It sounds like it's gonna be like the Division. Maybe Shared areas like Agartha and the faction areas. But it seems single player unless you invite others into your instance.
