Hey, we wouldn't want Republicans voting on who'll be the Democrat's nominee, otherwise we'd get someone who's so unenthusiastic and disconnected from the base that they could lose to a senile reality show star.

i think russia is a thing but they need to keep that question burning so that the next weird russia thing that drops makes trump look worse. by going all in, if something actually drops, it probably won't matter, but if the russia thing is in the back of everyones heads and then it turns out oh trump talked to putin irl in a secret hallway or something, you actually have a big story break. if you just keep the same tone/story throughout the next 2 years, no ones gonna give a poo poo.

the emails thing was a problem because no one had talked about the emails for like a loving month and then bam it consumed the news cycle.

right now democrats shoul dbe fighting on healthcare while they behind the scenes look into the russia poo poo so they can pin it on trump with some additional evidence. instead they're like "oh yeah we need to tweak the thing that will kill literally thousands of people so it just kills thousands of people still, but its not as expensive!!" instead of like standing up for poo poo.

democrats suuuuuck. hope the local party takeovers pay off bc we're hosed with the current dems at the helm lol

There's a difference between a political party that only sees you as a vote and nothing because they take you for granted due to the other party actively looking to gently caress you over vs. being a political party that actually has your interests at heart.

yea this is really all they have to say about the ahca over and over again

im listening to a really interesting ted talk (lol i know) about what makes homo sapiens different hisgorically and evolutionarily from other higher order primates, and the author's contention is that we uniquely have the ability to tell eachother stories. Thagt in turn allows us to create ideas, narratives, religions, concepts for larger and larger groups to rally around.

He believes that the reaction against globalism and neoliberalism is because there is no broader vision articulated as a part of it, that its proponents have lost the thread of why that unites large groups of himans in a shared goal. As a species we are now dealing with a global economy and global climate and global resources, but approaching it all on national scales. This is why climate change deniers are almost always nationalists, because nationalism explicitly does not have a eay to deal with a global problem, so thsy deny its existemce entirely.

dont agree wjth everything he is saying, but thw thrust of his argument that a globally interconnected world needs a global vision (and government) to survive is well made

how does what i said apply to dems: one of their failed slogans of 2016 was "america is already great", a terrible, explicitly rractionary one lol

not just a lack of vision, a lack od vision for thr country so profound the slogan only evem makes sense when used in contrast with their opponent's message

Honestly there's no politician who I would describe as a "lifelong public servant." Even Bernie has to be in this for money and power at some level, it seems insulting to the intelligence of the voters to suggest otherwise.

why did a democratic stronghold suddenly turn deep red

Why did a state full of people who liked voting for democrats suddenly refuse to vote for anyone except manchin and Republicans?

I feel like this needs a better answer than "well, it realigned, nothing we can do". it's stupid to shrug it off as just "well, it's conservative country, we can't possibly win there" like it's loving Alabama or something

i wonder if mccain ever feels any regret for this. it seems like sarah palin was a catalyst for trumpism

nah, the attitudes that eventually became trumpism were already around. they just rallied around her because she seemed to be speaking to the concerns she had about mainstream Republicans. if she hadn't done it, sooner or later, someone else would have
