I've felt distinctly unhyped by the Andromeda poo poo we've seen because so far there doesn't seem to be a good story. Neat shooty bits, yeah, but I want a good story that comes along with that.

This is RPS. Here's a snippet from an article they did when Wargame: Red Dragon came out:

quote:

Why I haven’t played these games

– Very few people I know have played it, though they all say they want to.

– It’s called Wargame. The last one was called Wargame: AirLand Battle. I know where that comes from, but it’s a bit like naming your shooter Shootergame: ManJeep Fight. Questgame: OrcsElves Loot. (John: “Adventuregame: InventoryClick Wait”. Adam: “Artgame: AbstractSorrow Observe”). I guess more broadly there’s a thematic issue: I don’t care about the setting that much. It feels like the theme for this strategy war game is “war and strategy”.

– They’ve got big wars in. Big wars are the most time-consuming wars.

– I’m lazy????

You aren't excited by the opening cutscene of an immensely advanced space ship plowing straight into an obstacle in deep space? Or the innovative Space Helicopter Crash sequence that drops you into the first mission? Or how Wise Leader Who Is Also Your Father "goes to scout ahead" in the first hour and Dies Heroically, so now you have to be The Special One? What is not compelling about this opening sequence?

Surely the chance to crouch behind waist-high walls in a desert will draw you in?

I really hope the game lets us play as huge gaping assholes. The renegade play throughs of the previous three were easily the most fun and I'm worried they're gonna lock us into playing a good guy that just reacts to different situations in slightly different emotional tones. There haven't seemed to be any really dickish response options in any of the gameplay we've seen yet.

I couldn't put my finger on it until these last few videos were posted, but these models just look like higher res versions of TOR.

Hopefully the gameplay is good, because it looks like that is just about all that is left that hasn't been poo poo on.

The animators are too busy optimizing the psychological allure of gacha boxes opening in their co-op casino.

Also makes sense that animation didn't get a proper budget - hiring a Game of Thrones actress? And one of the best of the cast?
